§1. Installation

1.1. Just joining a server?

Install the client mod and you're done — the server admin takes care of everything else.

  1. Download the mod (e.g. from Modrinth)
  2. Pick the file matching your Minecraft version and loader — Fabric, NeoForge or Quilt
  3. Drop it into your /mods folder
  4. Launch Minecraft with that loader's profile

Note

If displays on that server still show up as a blank block after this, the server itself hasn't installed Dream Displays yet — that's on the admin, not you. Point them to the section below.

1.2. Running a server?

Players need the client mod above (and can't see or interact with displays without it), but the server also needs its own side installed — otherwise it doesn't even know displays exist.

Pick whichever your server already runs on:

  • Paper / Purpur / Folia / other forks: download the plugin from Modrinth and drop it into /plugins folder
  • Fabric / NeoForge server: install the same mod file used by clients — it detects it's running server-side and loads the server component automatically

Restart the server. A config.toml will be generated on first launch — head to Configuration to customize it.

1.3. Supported Minecraft versions

Always check the version dropdown on Modrinth for the exact list of currently published builds — this changes as new Minecraft versions ship.

Java requirements follow whatever the targeted Minecraft version already requires; there's nothing extra you need to install for Dream Displays itself.
