BOTWCraft 0.1.2 — first release
Play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as Minecraft's Steve.
Breath of the Wild runs in Cemu; Minecraft: Java Edition runs beside it, hidden. You see BOTW's world and play it with Minecraft's player, blocks and items. This is the first release: an early version, played from start to end on the Great Plateau.
Download
BOTWCraft-0.1.2.zip below. Unzip it and open HOW TO INSTALL.txt: it walks you through everything, step by step.
What you need
- Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) and a graphics card with Vulkan
- Cemu 2.6 (the official Windows build), using Vulkan
- Breath of the Wild for Wii U, US version, with update v208, dumped from your own console and working in Cemu
- Minecraft: Java Edition 26.3 with Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer and Fabric API for 26.3
No game files are included. You need your own copies of the games.
What works
- First person in BOTW's world with Minecraft's movement, jumping, sneaking, swimming, sprinting (Link's dash) and climbing (Link's stamina)
- BOTW's ground, walls and moving platforms are solid for Steve; Minecraft's blocks are drawn inside BOTW's own frame, lit and shadowed by the game
- Blocks you place are ground and walls for BOTW's creatures and objects
- BOTW's enemies hurt Steve and Steve hurts them; Steve's hearts are Link's, and BOTW's food heals him
- The runes (Magnesis, Stasis, Cryonis, round and square bombs) as Minecraft items: hold one to use it
- The paraglider as gliding, once the game gives it to you
- Cutscenes play with BOTW's camera, with Steve in place of Link
- What Steve carries is saved together with each BOTW save
- Your saves are copied before every session, and Cemu's settings are put back afterwards
Known limits
- Only the Great Plateau was played from start to end.
- BOTW's weapons, bows, shields, clothes and cooking are still used through the game's own menu (F7). Bringing them into Minecraft's inventory is the next big step.
- Minecraft's blocks are not saved with BOTW's saves yet.
- Works only with Cemu 2.6 and the US version of the game with update v208.
Credits
- The Minecraft side is based on SkyCraft by chasmlol (MIT).
- Much of what is known about the game's code was learnt from BetterVR by Crementif (MIT), the Breath of the Wild decompilation project and WiiXLaunch-BotW.
- vkroots (Apache-2.0 or MIT) for the Vulkan layer; the bundled Python runtime is under the PSF licence.
