FFmpegKitNext builds FFmpegKit, FFmpeg and optional external libraries. Enable optional libraries with --enable-LIBRARY, or use --full to enable the non-GPL set supported by the selected platform.

Dependencies listed below are enabled automatically by the build scripts when the parent library is enabled.

Supplementary Packages

Supplementary packages are built only to satisfy dependencies of enabled libraries. They are not usually enabled directly as FFmpeg features.

Package Used for
cpu-features Android CPU feature detection support used by libraries such as libvpx and openh264.
expat XML parsing dependency for fontconfig and libass.
giflib GIF image support for libwebp, leptonica and tesseract.
jpeg JPEG support through libjpeg-turbo.
leptonica Image processing dependency for tesseract.
libogg Ogg container dependency for libvorbis and libtheora.
libpng PNG support used by image/font/subtitle dependencies.
libsamplerate Sample-rate conversion dependency for rubberband.
libsndfile Audio file I/O dependency for twolame and rubberband.
libuuid UUID support used by fontconfig and libass.
nettle Crypto dependency for gnutls; built against gmp in this project.
rapidjson Header-only JSON parser used by the Linux FFmpegKit C++ API/media information parser; downloaded by Linux builds.
tiff TIFF image support; depends on jpeg.
zlib Compression support used by several libraries and platform builds.

Platform Libraries

Some options enable platform or system libraries instead of downloading a third-party source package.

  • Android: android-zlib, android-media-codec
  • Apple platforms: bzip2, AudioToolbox, iconv, VideoToolbox, zlib; AVFoundation on iOS/macOS; Core Image, OpenCL and OpenGL on macOS
  • Linux: linux-* options link supported libraries from the host pkg-config environment, such as ALSA, VAAPI, V4L2 and system-provided codec/filter libraries. Linux builds also download rapidjson for FFmpegKit's C++ API.
