Marbles v1.5.3

Marbles 1.5.3 is a big step from 1.0.1.1: a Vim-style text editor and file manager has grown up around the encrypted notes, and Marbles now runs as a single file on Windows, Linux (also Raspberry Pi) and macOS, with nothing else to install.

Highlights

Encrypted notes

• AES-256-GCM encryption, with the key derived from the password using PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 (files from 1.0.x are converted the first time you log in)
• Search, favorites, pinned notes with colors, read-only notes, several data files, merging and export

The editor

• Normal, Insert and Visual modes (also block selection), text objects, registers, undo and repeat
• Split view: the same text in two panes side by side, remembered when you open it again
• Syntax colors for Markdown, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, XML, C# and PHP
• Spell checking, word completion, code snippets, search and replace with regular expressions, comparison (diff)
• A macro recorder, whose macros are saved as readable, editable text
• :new makes a new file (or note) from inside the editor

The file manager

• An orthodox file browser with two panes: create, rename, copy, move, delete, peek and compare
• Favorites with folders and colors, file history, a directory hotlist, and file search by name or text

Getting around

• The Jump menu (Ctrl+O): bookmarks, recent places, files, pages and data files in a few keys
• A command line on every page, with Tab completion and command history
• A quick guide and short guides to each part, in the Help tab of the start page

At home in any terminal

• A pure 7-bit ASCII interface, with color schemes and logos you can edit, and optional classic ASCII corners
• English and German built in, and Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, Dutch and Finnish as language files

The Windows, Linux and macOS builds are single files with the .NET runtime included. Each archive has a folder Marbles with the program and the folder lang. See the guide to installation for how to start it, and how to upgrade from 1.0.x.
