@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Sep 17:58

Every package below carries the Alexandria core, and every one that
cannot ask a package manager for ffmpeg carries that too. There is
nothing else to install.

Windows

  • alexandria-setup-0.1.1.exe —
the installer. Asks where to install, and replaces an existing
installation found there or in the place a previous install
recorded. Only the program's own files are removed; your library,
catalog, and settings are left alone.
  • alexandria-0.1.1-windows-x64.zip
    — the application itself. Unpack it and run
alexandria.exe; nothing is registered, and deleting the
    folder removes it.
  • alexandria.msix — published unsigned. Windows will not
install an unsigned MSIX without a trusted certificate, so use
the installer unless you have your own signing set up.

Linux

  • alexandria-installer-0.1.1-linux-x64.sh
    — the installer. chmod +x it and run it. Defaults to
~/.local/share/alexandria, or /opt/alexandria as root, and
replaces an existing installation the same way the Windows one
    does. --prefix DIR and --yes skip the questions;
--uninstall removes what it installed and nothing else.
  • alexandria-0.1.1-linux-x64.tar.gz
    — the application itself. Unpack it and run
    ./alexandria.
  • .deb — for Ubuntu 24.04, which is the release it is built
on. Pulls ffmpeg, libmpv, and GTK in through apt.
  • .AppImage — carries everything it needs.
  • .flatpak — its codecs come from the
    org.freedesktop.Platform.ffmpeg-full runtime extension.

The installer, the tarball, and the AppImage carry everything the
program needs — ffmpeg, libmpv, and the libraries those depend on.
Only the graphics, sound, and C libraries any desktop application
already has come from your system.

Packages are unsigned — code signing needs a certificate the
project does not hold yet.

Licence

Alexandria is free software under the
GNU General Public License v3 or later.
The source is alexandria-ui
and alexandria-api;
this release was built from the tag of the same name.

The Linux packages carry copyleft libraries, which is why the whole
program is under the GPL rather than something more permissive:
libmpv plays the video, and ffmpeg links the x264, x265, xvid and
postproc encoders whether or not anything ever encodes with them.

Every bundled library's licence travels inside the package in
lib/licenses, the full list of packages is in
lib/licenses/PACKAGES.txt, and the ones known to be copyleft are
named in lib/licenses/COPYLEFT.tsv.

The GPL entitles you to the complete corresponding source for
everything here. For Alexandria that is the two repositories above.
For the bundled libraries, they are unmodified Ubuntu 24.04
packages, and their sources are the matching apt-get source
packages for the versions named in PACKAGES.txt; ask through the
repository if you would rather have them directly.

@github-actions github-actions released this 21 Aug 20:18

The first tagged release. It exists to exercise the release pipeline and the
two install programs rather than to mark a milestone in the product, which is
why it is flagged as a prerelease.

Windows

  • alexandria-setup-0.0.1.exe — the installer. Asks where to install, and
replaces an existing installation found there or in the place a previous
install recorded. Only the program's own files are removed; your library,
catalog, and settings are left alone.
  • alexandria-0.0.1-windows-x64.zip — the application itself. Unpack it
and run alexandria_desktop.exe. Nothing is registered, and deleting the
    folder removes it.
  • alexandria.msix — published unsigned. Windows will not install an
unsigned MSIX without a trusted certificate, so use the installer above
unless you have your own signing set up.

Both Windows packages carry the ffmpeg libraries the core needs.

Linux

  • alexandria-installer-0.0.1-linux-x64.sh — the installer.

    chmod +x alexandria-installer-0.0.1-linux-x64.sh
    ./alexandria-installer-0.0.1-linux-x64.sh

Defaults to ~/.local/share/alexandria, or /opt/alexandria as root, and
replaces an existing installation the same way the Windows one does.
--prefix DIR and --yes skip the questions; --uninstall removes what it
    installed and nothing else.

  • alexandria-0.0.1-linux-x64.tar.gz — the application itself. Unpack it
    and run ./alexandria_desktop.

These two need ffmpeg already installed. The core links ffmpeg and
neither package carries it, so install your distribution's ffmpeg runtime
libraries first. The installer reports unresolved libraries when it finishes
rather than leaving it to a failed first launch.

Withdrawn from this release

A .deb, an AppImage, and a Flatpak bundle were published with this tag and
have since been deleted from it. They did not contain the Alexandria core and
could not start.

linux/CMakeLists.txt clears the bundle directory at the start of every build,
and the packaging tool runs a build again for each package it produces — so the
core was copied in, erased by that rebuild, and then packaged around. The
.deb was confirmed by extracting it and finding every Flutter plugin library
but no libalexandria_ffi.so; the other two were produced from the same
rebuilt bundle.

Everything listed above was built before that step and is unaffected.

All three will return in the next release, where the core is installed into the
bundle by the build itself and each package is checked for its contents before
anything is published.
