What

R-phase research patch — external/industry complement to the merged 2026-06-03-aif-operator-asset-access.md (#390+#391). Surveys how the industry delivers persistent discipline to an autonomous agent running in a container, produces a six-option verdict table + upstream T16 problem-class table, and recommends an operator+shipped composition.

Deliverable: docs/meta-factory/research-patches/2026-06-03-aif-skills-delivery.md (research-only — no production code).

Key findings

  • Industry convergence (Q1): OpenHands (.openhands/skills), Devin (Knowledge/Playbooks/SKILL.md), Cursor (.cursor/rules), Aider (CONVENTIONS.md), and the AGENTS.md standard (Linux Foundation, 60k+ repos) all deliver persistent discipline as files committed in the repo clone — not host-injected global state.
  • aif-handoff today (Q2): container sees the clone via PROJECTS_DIR→/home/www mount; agent definitions are committed .claude/agents/*.md loaded settingSources:["project"]; AI Factory skills install project-local and survive a fresh clone/container (DeepWiki ×2).
  • MCP-skills-server → REJECT (Q3 d): skills="know" vs MCP="do"; 35× token overhead — wrong tool class for static discipline.
  • Independently corroborates the sibling patch's B+D (committed skill-context) on the shipped axis + volume mount on the operator axis.

Verification (own cold-QA, T19)

Scope discipline

  • Strategy forks (worker-vs-orchestrator scope, mount-in-scope, condensation ratio) surfaced as I-phase open questions / deferred to sibling DN-1/2/3 — not decided in this research (reviewer-discipline §2).
  • Positioned to avoid #parallel-evolution-creep: read the in-flight sibling patch before writing; scoped to the three things it did not cover (industry survey, MCP verdict, upstream T16 table).

(know-vs-do mismatch + 35x token overhead); volume mount matches operator axis only.
