Astar 0.9.0 beta

Screen-aware voice assistant for macOS. Fully self-contained — download, drag to Applications, paste one free API key, talk.

Install

  1. Download Astar-0.9.0-beta.dmg below, open it, drag astar to Applications
  2. Launch — the Settings window opens; paste a free Groq key, Save
  3. Grant the one-time permission prompts (mic, screen, accessibility, automation)
  4. Press ⌃⌥Space, talk, then just stop talking

What it does

  • Sees your screen (on-device OCR first — screenshots stay on your Mac)
  • Acts by voice: apps, Calendar, Notes, Mail drafts, Music, reminders, timers, clipboard
  • Developer sidekick: runs terminal commands and types wherever your cursor is
  • Spotlight-style HUD with live mic level and color-coded states
  • Conversation memory + chat-style History window
  • In-app Settings for keys — extra free keys (Cerebras, NVIDIA, Mistral, OpenRouter) become an auto-fallback chain, so it's never down or rate-limited
  • Optional natural voice (Cartesia) and sharper hearing (Deepgram) — free local stack remains default and fallback

Notes

  • Pre-release: unsigned-developer build; macOS may require right-click → Open on first launch
  • Emails are always drafted, never auto-sent; destructive shell commands require confirmation; sudo blocked
