Weather gains a month view of hourly temperatures, with sunrise and sunset and a comparison with the ten-year average. Browse the past ten years and the current year so far, and hover to see how warm or cold an hour was for the time of year.

Tides gain month and year views and a view of what moves the tide. The month helps you find low water in daylight; the year compares predictions with measurements where available. “What moves the tide here” shows how the Sun and Moon shape the tides through a month, a year, and the Moon's long cycle. Coverage expands to Japan, Norway, and about 1,200 more gauges around the world.

The Moon has a new layout, with its phase, rise and set times, and calendar information around a centered disc. linecast now speaks Hungarian and Slovak, with experimental Hebrew and Modern Standard Arabic alongside Persian.

New this version:

  • Weather: Hover over a daily temperature bar for an hourly graph. The forecast makes rain, snow, and wind easier to pick out, and the temperature colors distinguish more extreme heat and cold.
  • Weather: --prose prints the forecast paragraph in your chosen language and units. Add --oneline to include the current conditions above it.
  • Tides: The hourly chart shows up to 72 hours in wider terminals. Predictions from the global model are available beyond the coming week.
  • Tides: Station search accepts names without accents: tromso finds Tromsø.
  • Moon: --month opens the calendar; --grid still works. --calendar icelandic adds the old Icelandic calendar and its named days and moons, and is the default in Icelandic.
  • Views: Press t to hide the surrounding text in moon, sunshine, and maps, or start with --no-text. Sunshine keeps the location and clock; maps also hides the crosshairs.
  • Maps: --view now opens a slowly rotating globe with daylight and clouds, with text and labels hidden. Press r to stop or resume rotation.
  • Print: --width and --height size a static view in columns and rows or percentages of the terminal, including for shell startup greetings.
  • Language: Greek and Turkish capitals follow local spelling, more languages use sentence case for Moon phases, and Japanese maps use kana place names.

Fixes:

  • Clock changes: Corrected tide times, Moon phase dates and countdowns, and tomorrow's sunrise and sunset in sunshine --json around daylight saving changes.
  • Sunshine and Moon: Corrected rise and set information at high latitudes, including polar night and midnight sun. Hebrew and Islamic calendar dates no longer change at noon during polar night.
  • Sunshine and sky: Corrected the Sun's seasonal height and the names for dawn and dusk south of the equator.
  • Weather: Corrected rain and snow amounts in the forecast and the last 24 hours. The forecast keeps the snow total when snow turns to rain, and distinguishes blowing snow from falling snow.
  • Weather: Showers separated by a dry spell are no longer described as lasting through the day. Temperatures just below zero no longer read “-0°”.
  • Weather: Alert times keep their minutes on the 12-hour clock, and Canadian alerts show their times on Python 3.10.
  • Weather: Missing historical data no longer appears as dry months or produces misleading rainfall comparisons in the year view.
  • Weather: A problem fetching alerts no longer prevents the forecast from opening; it reports that alerts are unavailable.
  • Moon: Corrected Blue Moon identification and the Moon's age. Countdowns in their last day show hours and minutes.
  • Moon: Calendar dates and observances are easier to read, and phases stay beside the right dates in short windows. Nerd Font phase icons show correctly on light backgrounds.
  • Sunshine and sky: sunshine --oneline shows the correct Moon phase near new and full moons. sky --oneline follows the chosen --culture.
  • Tides: Fixed gaps in charts for places with very small tides. TideCheck charts show the full predicted curve.
  • Tides: Fixed failures to find tides near Vancouver's Second Narrows. Station searches can continue when one tide service fails.
  • Tides: High and low tide times remain legible over the chart, and wave and swell information fits narrow windows.
  • Maps and radar: Fixed missing areas near the 180th meridian, including Fiji and the Aleutians, and directions across it opening on the whole planet.
  • Maps: Street and terrain views recover from failed downloads, and a damaged map tile no longer blanks the whole street view.
  • Maps: City names stay more stable while the globe rotates. Search no longer repeats a city or misses a result when Enter is pressed before suggestions arrive.
  • Maps: Directions say when no route exists between two places. Printed routes keep your location marker in the right place.
  • Maps and radar: Corrected keyboard help and restored radar's A key for alerts. The mouse wheel moves through an open radar theme menu, and invalid --zoom values give a clear error.
  • Language: Fixed crashes and incorrectly ordered or unjoined letters in right-to-left place names and printed output.
  • Language: Thai text keeps its vowel and tone marks, and Chinese, Japanese, and Korean labels fit correctly. Map elevations and tide summaries follow the chosen language.
  • Language: Language selection respects LC_ALL and LANGUAGE, and saved settings accept codes such as zh_Hant and es-419.
  • Live views: Fixed footer flicker on mouse hover in tmux and inconsistent colors after a terminal theme change.
  • Live views: Ctrl-Z returns control to the shell, fg resumes the view, and Ctrl-C quits promptly during loading or printing. Pressing Esc while moving the mouse no longer moves the sky unexpectedly.
  • Location: Coordinates beginning with a minus sign work on Python 3.13 and older. Moon, sunshine, and sky can open with a saved location offline, place names remain available, and Canadian tides keep their last predictions.
  • Settings and storage: Setting commands leave unreadable configuration files intact and preserve links to files in a dotfiles repository. Old cached data is removed automatically to limit disk use.
  • Tools: linecast link explains when its destination is unwritable. linecast doctor now checks the airport reports and the weather alert service for your country.
