AssegaiPHP Util 0.9.0

0.9.0 aligns assegaiphp/util with the AssegaiPHP 0.9 release line.

This is primarily a compatibility and release-readiness update. The public utility API remains stable, while the package now targets the PHP/runtime baseline expected by the rest of the 0.9 ecosystem.

Highlights

PHP 8.4 baseline

assegaiphp/util now requires PHP >=8.4.

The lock file has been refreshed for the new baseline, bringing the development/test stack forward to current compatible packages.

Quality gates

This release adds a first-class composer test script and repository quality gates:

  • GitHub Actions workflow for main and develop
  • CI matrix for PHP 8.4 and latest
  • strict Composer validation
  • dependency installation from lock file
  • Codeception unit test execution
  • local pre-push hook that runs available Composer quality scripts

Repository health and contributor docs

The README now includes release, CI, PHP version, license, and status badges.

The repo also gains contribution guidance and metadata describing the package status, CI workflow, PHP baseline, and test lane.

Test hardening

The directory helper tests now create isolated temporary directories instead of relying on persistent test fixtures. This makes the suite cleaner and less sensitive to local filesystem state.

The path-relative test expectation has also been aligned with the current normalized path behavior.

What did not change

  • No public helper APIs were removed.
  • No namespaces changed.
  • atatusoft-ltd/plural remains the pluralization dependency.
  • Runtime behavior is intended to remain compatible apart from the PHP version baseline.

Upgrade notes

If you are upgrading from 0.4.4:

  • PHP 8.4 or newer is now required.
  • Run composer update assegai/util or update through the broader AssegaiPHP 0.9.x release set.
  • No application code changes should be required for existing utility usage.
