Sonora 0.2.0
Per-app volume control for macOS, right in your menu bar.
Install
- Download Sonora-0.2.0.dmg below, open it, and drag Sonora onto Applications.
- Open Sonora. macOS says it can't verify the developer, because Sonora isn't notarized by Apple yet. Click Done.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway next to Sonora. You only need to do this once.
- The welcome window walks you through the audio permission.
Requires macOS 14.2 or newer. Runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel.
What's in it
- One slider per playing app, 0–150%, with a click on the icon to mute. Levels are remembered per app.
- Look-ahead limiter, so boosting never crackles or clips.
- Calls (WhatsApp, FaceTime, Zoom…) are detected automatically:
- other apps fade down so your music doesn't leak into the call, and fade back gently afterwards
- voices are leveled to a steady loudness when people join or leave
- a separate call volume
- when the call is the only thing playing, Sonora steps aside entirely
- A tip for macOS Voice Isolation, the strongest filter for your microphone.
- Detects a missing System Audio Recording permission and never leaves an app silent.
- Welcome window, open at login, and an animated menu bar title.
Known limitations
- An app whose volume isn't 100% is heard about 60 ms late (macOS's tap path).
- Not yet notarized, hence the one-time Open Anyway step.
