Azure CLI workload-orchestration Extension 1.1.6 Parameter Changelog

This document outlines the recent breaking changes to the az workload-orchestration target command group. The primary motivation for these changes is to streamline commands by using full Azure Resource Manager (ARM) IDs for identifying resources. This approach removes ambiguity and simplifies parameter sets.

📌 Update: --context-id Parameter Added to target create
Overview
The az workload-orchestration target create command now supports a new parameter: --context-id. This enhancement allows users to specify the full ARM ID of the context resource directly, improving clarity and reducing ambiguity in resource targeting.
✅ New Parameter

Parameter     Description
--context-id Full ARM ID of the context resource to associate with the target. Example: /subscriptions/<sub-id>/resourceGroups/<rg>/providers/private.edge/contexts/<context-name>

🧪 Example Usage

az workload-orchestration target create `
  --resource-group ConfigManager-CloudTest-Playground-Portal `
  --location eastus2euap `
  --name lk-mk71 `
  --display-name lk-mk71 `
  --capabilities newtest-soap `
--description "This is MK-71 Site" `
  --solution-scope new `
  --target-specification @targetspecs.json `
  --extended-location @custom-location.json `
  --context-id /subscriptions/973d15c6-6c57-447e-b9c6-6d79b5b784ab/resourceGroups/Mehoopany/providers/private.edge/contexts/Mehoopany-Context \

az workload-orchestration target review

The command to review a solution on a target has been updated to use a single, unambiguous ARM ID for the solution version.

Removed Argument(s) Added Argument
--solution-name (alias: --solution-template-name) --solution-template-version-id
--solution-version (alias: --solution-template-version)

Example:

Old Command:

az workload-orchestration target review --resource-group MyRG --target-name MyTarget --solution-name MySolution --solution-version 1.0.0

New Command:

az workload-orchestration target review --resource-group MyRG --target-name MyTarget --solution-template-version-id /subscriptions/sub-id/resourceGroups/MyRG/providers/Microsoft.Edge/solutionTemplates/MySolution/versions/1.0.0

az workload-orchestration target publish

The publish command has been significantly simplified. It no longer depends on a review-id and instead directly references the solution version ARM ID to be published.

Removed Argument(s) Added Argument
--review-id --solution-version-id
--solution-name
--solution-version

Example:

Old Command:

az workload-orchestration target publish --resource-group MyRG --target-name MyTarget --review-id <review-id> --solution-name MySolution --solution-version 1.0.0

New Command:

az workload-orchestration target publish --resource-group MyRG --target-name MyTarget --solution-version-id /subscriptions/973d15c6-6c57-447e-b9c6-6d79b5b784ab/resourceGroups/ConfigManager-CloudTest-Playground-CliBox/providers/private.edge/targets/den-mk72/solutions/den-solution/versions/den-solution-2.0.0.1

az workload-orchestration target install

Similar to other commands, install now uses the solution version's ARM ID.

Removed Argument(s) Added Argument
--solution-name --solution-version-id
--solution-version

Example:

Old Command:

az workload-orchestration target install --resource-group MyRG --target-name MyTarget --solution-name MySolution --solution-version 1.0.0

New Command:

az workload-orchestration target install --resource-group MyRG --target-name MyTarget --solution-version-id /subscriptions/973d15c6-6c57-447e-b9c6-6d79b5b784ab/resourceGroups/ConfigManager-CloudTest-Playground-CliBox/providers/private.edge/targets/den-mk72/solutions/den-solution/versions/den-solution-2.0.0.1

az workload-orchestration target uninstall

The uninstall command now uses the ARM ID of the parent solution template instead of just its name.

Removed Argument Added Argument
--solution-name --solution-template-id

Example:

Old Command:

az workload-orchestration target uninstall --resource-group MyRG --target-name MyTarget --solution-name MySolution

New Command:

az workload-orchestration target uninstall --resource-group MyRG --target-name MyTarget --solution-template-id /subscriptions/sub-id/resourceGroups/MyRG/providers/Microsoft.Edge/solutionTemplates/MySolution

az workload-orchestration target remove-revision

This command now identifies the solution by its template ARM ID, while still requiring the specific version to be removed.

Removed Argument Added Argument
--solution-name --solution-template-id

Example:

Old Command:

az workload-orchestration target remove-revision --resource-group MyRG --target-name MyTarget --solution-name MySolution --solution-version 1.0.0

New Command:

az workload-orchestration target remove-revision --resource-group MyRG --target-name MyTarget --solution-template-id /subscriptions/sub-id/resourceGroups/MyRG/providers/Microsoft.Edge/solutionTemplates/MySolution --solution-version 1.0.0
