VargaMesh Core v0.2.0

VargaMesh Core v0.2.0 is the first official binary release that includes
VargaMesh Mainnet and VargaMesh Public Testnet v1 in the same Core binaries.

Supported platforms

Official binary packages:

  • Linux x86_64
  • Windows x86_64

The Windows package is cross-compiled with the MinGW-w64 toolchain through the
repository's pinned depends system and is then executed on a Windows runner
before publication.

Included Core programs

  • vargameshd
  • vargamesh-cli
  • vargamesh-wallet
  • vargamesh-tx
  • vargamesh-util

On Windows the programs use the .exe suffix.

Mainnet

Mainnet remains the default network.

Start:

vargameshd

Query:

vargamesh-cli getblockchaininfo

VargaMesh Public Testnet v1

The same binaries also contain the official VargaMesh Public Testnet v1.

Start:

vargameshd -testnet

Query:

vargamesh-cli -testnet getblockchaininfo

Important Testnet properties:

  • Asset: tVMESH
  • Proof-of-Work: SHA-256d
  • P2P port: 39666
  • RPC port: 39667
  • AuxPoW chain ID: 22094 / 0x564E
  • Bech32 HRP: tvm
  • AuxPoW activation: height 1

tVMESH is a Testnet asset only and has no monetary value.

Full Testnet documentation:

Exchange and integration documentation:

Verification performed before publication

The release workflow requires all of the following to succeed before creating
the GitHub Release:

  1. Linux x86_64 build.
  2. Linux Mainnet daemon/RPC smoke test.
  3. Linux VargaMesh Public Testnet v1 daemon/RPC smoke test.
  4. Linux Mainnet vm1... wallet-address check.
  5. Linux Testnet tvm1... wallet-address check.
  6. Windows x86_64 MinGW-w64 cross-build.
  7. Execution of all packaged Windows command-line programs on Windows.
  8. Windows Mainnet daemon/RPC smoke test.
  9. Windows VargaMesh Public Testnet v1 daemon/RPC smoke test.
  10. Windows Mainnet vm1... wallet-address check.
  11. Windows Testnet tvm1... wallet-address check.
  12. SHA-256 checksums for both release archives.

The v0.2.0 tag and GitHub Release are created only after all build and smoke
test jobs pass.

Security

Keep Mainnet and Testnet data directories and wallets separate.

Do not expose unauthenticated Core RPC directly to the public Internet.

VargaMesh Core v0.1.1

@ati1993de ati1993de released this 23 Sep 17:21

VargaMesh Core v0.1.1

VargaMesh Core v0.1.1 is the first regular VargaMesh Mainnet release
following the initial v0.1.0 public pre-release.

Changes

  • Marks VargaMesh Core as a regular release build.
  • Removes the pre-release runtime warning associated with development builds.
  • Updates the public Core version from v0.1.0 to v0.1.1.
  • Updates VargaMesh CLI user-agent documentation to v0.1.1.
  • Uses the official VargaMesh Core repository as the public source reference.

Network compatibility

There are no consensus or network-identity changes in this release.

Unchanged:

  • VargaMesh Mainnet genesis block
  • SHA-256d Proof of Work
  • 120-second target block spacing
  • AuxPoW activation and chain ID
  • ASERT difficulty adjustment
  • address formats
  • wallet format
  • P2P port
  • RPC port
  • existing blockchain history

No chain reset or migration is required.

Existing VargaMesh Mainnet nodes can continue using their current blockchain
data directories when upgrading to v0.1.1.

Validation

The release source is built and tested before publication. The production
upgrade process additionally verifies existing-chain continuity, RPC
operation, mining template generation and absence of the former pre-release
runtime warning.

Upgrade

Stop the existing VargaMesh Core node cleanly before replacing binaries.

Back up important wallet data before upgrading.

VargaMesh Core v0.1.1 uses the same Mainnet blockchain and wallet data as
v0.1.0.

VargaMesh Core v0.1.0

Initial public pre-release of VargaMesh Core.

VargaMesh is an independent SHA-256d Proof-of-Work / AuxPoW blockchain.

Mainnet parameters

  • Currency: VMESH
  • Network: VargaMesh Mainnet
  • Target block time: 120 seconds
  • AuxPoW: enabled from block 1
  • AuxPoW chain ID: 0x564D / 22093
  • P2P port: 29666/TCP
  • RPC port: 29667/TCP
  • Bech32 HRP: vm
  • Protocol version: 70016

Genesis block:

Windows first start — configuration required

Important: VargaMesh Core v0.1.0 currently requires an explicit
P2P bind address.

Before starting the daemon for normal operation, create:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\VargaMesh\vargamesh.conf

Quick way:

notepad "%LOCALAPPDATA%\VargaMesh\vargamesh.conf"

Example configuration:

server=1

listen=1
bind=0.0.0.0:29666

rpcbind=127.0.0.1
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcport=29667

addnode=217.154.93.20:29666
addnode=212.132.80.39:29666
addnode=31.70.81.5:29666

Then start:

vargameshd.exe

In another terminal:

vargamesh-cli.exe getblockchaininfo
vargamesh-cli.exe getnetworkinfo
vargamesh-cli.exe getconnectioncount

RPC security

Do not expose port 29667 to the public Internet.

The example configuration keeps JSON-RPC bound to localhost.

P2P port 29666/TCP may be opened or forwarded if the node should
accept inbound VargaMesh peer connections.

Windows package

The Windows x86-64 package contains:

  • vargameshd.exe
  • vargamesh-cli.exe
  • required Windows runtime DLLs

The packaged daemon and RPC client were tested successfully on Windows 11.

Known issue

VargaMesh Core v0.1.0 requires the explicit:

bind=0.0.0.0:29666

setting shown above.

This requirement is planned to be removed in a future release.

Development status

VargaMesh Core v0.1.0 is early-stage software.

Back up wallets before upgrades and do not expose RPC services to
untrusted networks.
