Error when installing on Ubuntu 14.04 (script/build)

I am following the steps given here: https://github.com/atom/atom#linux-requirements

The versions I have installed are:

When I execute
script/build # Creates application at /tmp/atom-build/Atom

I get an error

It looks like something has gone wrong with your build the apm directory is only populated after running the script/build executable. Can you run script/clean an try rebuilding?

I've just noticed your building using sudo, this should be done as your normal user.

I ran script/build without sudo after script/clean and it just hangs.

After a lifetime it shows an error npm WARN package.json github-url-from-git@1.1.1 No repository field. and hangs.

I manually closed the terminal after 15 minutes. Should it take so much time ?

All I had to do was follow the items in the issue in my first comment. You don't have any root owned files left over from your previous build do you?

No, I ran sudo script/clean before

Bizarre, it's mentioned that the error you mentioned above is normal by one of the github devs #2029 (comment)

You could run node --log_all script/build this will write out a log file named v8.log (you can change this with --logfile) so you can get a better idea of what's happening. Other than that I'm not sure, my node.js fu is weak I'm afraid.

Step by step I did the following on my system which included building node rather than using the node from the Ubuntu repos or someone's PPA.

# Build node from source
wget http://nodejs.org/dist/v0.10.28/node-v0.10.28.tar.gz
tar xzvf node-v0.10.28.tar.gz
cd node-v0.10.28
./configure && make
sudo make install

# Atom pre-requisits
sudo apt-get install libgnome-keyring-dev
sudo apt-get remove gyp
sudo ln -s /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libudev.so.1 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libudev.so.0

# Install atom
git clone https://github.com/atom/atom
cd atom
script/build
sudo script/grunt install

I cleaned up my system and re-did the above which produced a working build. I was on a really crummy wifi connection so installing npm packages was slow and was taking most of the time. None the less I always had output in my terminal.

Edit: Just wanted to add I am using the standard Ubuntu build tools provided by the build-essential package.
