CineLibrary v1.2 — Portable Setup

A fast, native Windows movie catalog for MediaElch-scraped collections. This release ships as a portable installer: one .exe, pick any folder (Desktop, external drive, USB stick, Documents), and the app lives there self-contained.

📦 Download

CineLibrary-v1.2.0-Portable-Setup.exe — 42.9 MB
Windows 10 20H1 (build 19041) or Windows 11, 64-bit. No admin rights required.

Move the installed folder to another PC any time — your movie library comes with it. Nothing is written to the registry at runtime, nothing lives in %AppData%.

✨ What's new since v1.0

Drives page — major redesign

Managing drives now matches the pattern from the original Electron version, with folder-level control:

  • Per-drive folder list — each drive card shows the folders you've scanned into the index, with a 📁 icon and a red ✕ to remove any folder (purges its movies + cached posters cleanly).
  • + Add Folder — pick a folder on the drive and CineLibrary adds it to the tracked list, then scans it right away. Repeat for as many folders as you want per drive.
  • ↻ Update Database — rescans every tracked folder on the drive, picking up new movies and flagging missing ones. Disabled when the drive is offline.
  • ✎ Rename — give each drive a unique name. Perfect for users with multiple identical drives (e.g. four "Seagate Backup Plus Drive" units that Windows can't tell apart) — rename them to Seagate 5TB - Bollywood, Seagate 4TB - Archive, etc.
  • 🧹 Clean up missing movies — a red warning strip appears when a scan couldn't find movies that were previously indexed (files/folders deleted on the drive). One click removes those stale entries and their cached artwork. Asks you to confirm before deleting.
  • Big movie count on the right side of each drive card for at-a-glance stats.
  • Empty-state card when no drives are added yet.

Installer UX

  • Portable install flow — default location is Desktop\CineLibrary, but you can redirect to any folder (external drive, USB, Documents…).
  • Program Files guardrail — if you try to install there, a clear error explains why it won't work (the app needs write access next to its exe).
  • Optional shortcuts — both Desktop and Start menu shortcuts are off by default, for a true portable feel.
  • Custom wizard copy throughout — every screen explains what "portable" means and where your library data lives.

Movie detail window

  • Resizable — converted from a fixed dialog to a proper window with Mica backdrop; drag the edges to fit your screen.
  • 180×260 poster, 260px hero fanart with gradient overlay.

Library browsing

  • S / M / L / XL thumbnail density picker in the toolbar (like Windows Explorer).
  • Empty state shown when a filter returns no results.
  • Breadcrumb title — ALL MOVIES › FAVORITES / › Bollywood / etc.
  • Hover lift on movie cards (subtle 3px translate).
  • Improved title readability — stronger 3-stop gradient on the info strip behind the title; compact offline badge.
  • Keyboard shortcuts — Ctrl+F focus search, Esc clear search, Ctrl+B toggle sidebar.

Sidebar

  • Collapsible with a ⮜ button (or Ctrl+B); state persists across launches.
  • Floating ☰ to reopen when collapsed.
  • Expandable groups — Libraries, Collections, Top Genres.

Theming & polish

  • Mica backdrop on the main window and the movie detail window.
  • ☀️ / 🌙 / 🖥️ theme toggle — Light / Dark / System. Remembers across launches.
  • Custom title bar with app-icon drag region (no more Window chrome overlapping your toolbar).

📁 Where your library lives

All data is stored in CineLibrary-Data\ right next to CineLibrary.exe:

<install folder>\
├── CineLibrary.exe
├── CineLibrary-Data\
│ ├── cinelibrary.db ← SQLite index of every movie
│ ├── posters\ ← cached artwork (shows even when drive is offline)
│ └── fanart\
└── …runtime files

To back up your library: copy CineLibrary-Data\.
To move to a new PC: copy the whole install folder — everything travels with it.

🖥️ Requirements

  • Windows 10 20H1 (build 19041) or Windows 11
  • 64-bit (x64)
  • ~180 MB disk space after install
  • No .NET install, no Visual C++ redistributable, no Windows App SDK runtime needed — everything is bundled

🐛 Known limits

  • Single-user install (per-user; no all-users option).
  • MediaElch-compatible only: each movie folder needs a movie.nfo + poster/fanart. CineLibrary does not scrape metadata itself.
  • Windows-only.

Made with C# + WinUI 3 — native, no Electron, starts in under a second.
