@Jiyone is there any way that the mask preview uses the viewport image? I was testing the new mask preview, and when masking an exposure instance I get a non white balanced low contrast image, since the preview comes from an early point in the pipeline. |

As per AP's request, I've moved my original post here:
When you click on the show mask icon (square with circle inside) the logic has been reversed: transparent areas are what you are affecting. This makes sense, but the yellow perhaps not so much anymore. People coming from other software might expect masks to be displayed in black and white, where black means 0% opacity and white means 100%.
The yellow was probably chosen as to not confuse it with actual black, but this strong color suggests "selected" to me rather than "excluded". Davinci resolve deals with it this way:
TLDR:
Make mask preview black and white, where black means 0% opacity.
Or
Do what Davinci does.
