In fact, mask exposure/contrast perhaps could be automatic when you select the no guided filter mode. I agree it is necessary to be able to manually tweak the mask for gf, to make sure the it falls where it needs to, but for no gf I think the histogram should span all 9 nodes (at least by default). If this is done, would there even be a case for making regular curves HDR? Tone EQ's UI makes more sense than curves in a scene referred workflow. |

OTOH, if the 9 nodes must be fixed for performance reasons, an adjustable histogram span (contrast compensation) is extremely useful for very targeted secondary corrections, both with and without guided filter. Currently it is not available without guided filter.
