AutoSet: Filmic Black

I don't think the AutoSet function should activate the Black Relative Exposure setting.

I agree, it would be better to just activate the white relative exposure. Or have checkbox for both, so user could choose to activate both or not.

Why do you think so? Is that for keeping highlights/exposure to the right?

Many times when I click the black relative exposure dropper it makes the blacks "too much black". Ofcourse it works as it should, but it looks better to my eye to have it further away from black. Thats why I usually just use the white relative exposure dropper and black relative exposure is set at fixed value. It works for most images and I only need to adjust it if the image is very low/high contrast. I would prefer to have both options selectable individually for autoset.

Our eyes adjust constantly and we probably will never see black. When we focus on a dark item our eyes let in more light and vise versa for a bright object. Even the 3 darkest paints don't reach 100% light absorption. Why would we even entertain the idea that a digital capture of a scene contains black.
Once Filmic sets the White point, I slide the Black slider all the way to the left at -14. Then in the Look tab, I slide the Shadows slider all the way to the left .10%. I then adjust the Contrast to .9 or 1.
I process live event photos that have drastic dynamic range due to the stage spot lights. I spot expose for the artists face. The result is generally much of the file is over and under exposed. I don't know where I would be without AP's knowledge in light, color and coding.

Thanks for your comments. I rarely use the autoset for the kind of pictures I take (little bugs and flowers), where I had to readjust anyway. When I did, it was for landscapes where I found it was quite OK.
