SSMS Support

Doing something a bit different, for all standard releases the latest and greatest will be accessed from the Visual Studio Marketplace.

This release is special as it includes "experimental" support for SQL Server Management Studio 19, 20, 21, 22.

Note: SSMS does not officially support third-party extensions at this time.

At time of writing the VS Marketplace conflates SSMS and VS installation targets and incorrectly gives validation errors, blocking upload of any extension VSIX targeting SSMS. To circumvent this I will be sharing such multi-targeted releases here though I do not plan to often.

Installation

For SSMS 21+, simply open the .vsix file to install via the VSIX Installer.

For SSMS 19 & 20

Note: custom themes will face the same issues as the incomplete Dark theme implementation.

• Extract the .vsix file in a folder named Midnight Lights Theme using 7zip or equivalent
• Copy this folder to the location (subbing the correct version number) C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 20\Common7\IDE\Extensions; You will need admin permissions to do this
• Restart SSMS
• You will now see theme available
