πŸš€ Sync to Cloud v2.1.1 – Job Reliability Fixes & Transfer UI Upgrades

Release date: May 29, 2025
Version: v2.1.1

Highlights

This release addresses a critical issue where jobs were incorrectly marked as failed due to temporary Kubernetes resource constraints. It also introduces several UI enhancements for better transparency and control over transfer tasks.

✨ New Features

  • Transfer Task Modal
A new modal shows detailed information for each task within a transfer:

    • Number of files transferred
    • Duration of each job
    • Originating user
    • Shared drive indicators (if applicable)
  • Enhanced History View
The history screen now displays all completed transfers and active templates, simplifying activity tracking and debugging.

  • Better Navigation
Improved styling and layout for Activity and Transfers buttons to enhance accessibility and user experience.

βš™οΈ Improvements & Refactors

  • Backend Logic Cleanup
    • Removed redundant hasattr checks as attributes are now guaranteed at initialization.
    • Refined task retry behavior to reduce noise (note: individual task retries are not yet implemented).

πŸ› Fixes

  • Kubernetes Job Handling
Resolved a major issue where jobs were being marked as failed due to temporary resource shortages. Jobs are now properly queued and executed once resources are available, eliminating false negatives.

πŸ“¦ Dev & Misc

  • No significant dev-side changes in this release. Focus was on reliability and UI improvements.

πŸ”§ How to Upgrade

1. Run the Cloud Build Trigger (Once per Tenant)

Before updating, you'll need to run terraform to create a new Firestore index to list tasks:

  1. Open Google Cloud Console
  2. Select your Sync to Cloud tenant project
  3. In the search bar, type "Triggers" and click the result under Cloud Build
  4. Run: terraform-production-deployment-trigger
  5. Go to the History tab and ensure it completes successfully

This step enables listing of transfer tasks in the UI.

2. Perform the Normal App Update

  1. Visit your tenant UI:
    https://sync-to-cloud-ui-[project_number].us-central1.run.app/exports
  2. Click the βš™οΈ cog icon > Admin Dashboard
  3. Under "Updates Available", click "Update Now"
  4. Close the UI, wait ~5 minutes
  5. Reopen and confirm the update message:
β€œYour system is up to date.”
