Installation Guide
ANE is offered in two editions. Both contain exactly the same application, the only difference is how they are delivered.
| Edition | Description | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Portable | A single program you run directly. No installation, no changes to your system. | Running from a USB drive, trying ANE quickly, or keeping it self-contained. |
| Installer | A standard setup that installs ANE, adds Start-menu and desktop shortcuts, and registers an entry in Apps & features. | A permanent installation with shortcuts and easy removal. |
- Go to the Release page.
- Download the Portable or the Installer edition.
- Save the file somewhere easy to find, such as your Downloads folder.
Releases are packaged in a compressed archive. You may need a tool such as 7-Zip or WinRAR to extract it first.
- Extract the download if it is in an archive.
- Double-click the ANE program file.
- ANE opens immediately, there is nothing to install.
You can move the portable file anywhere, including onto a USB stick, and run it on any supported Windows PC.
- Double-click the setup file.
- Follow the on-screen steps, choosing an installation folder if prompted.
- When finished, launch ANE from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut.
To remove ANE later, open Settings → Apps → Installed apps (or Apps & features), find Avarwand Name Editor, and choose Uninstall.
Because ANE is distributed as freeware without a paid commercial code-signing certificate, Windows may show a blue "Windows protected your PC" SmartScreen message the first time you run it. This is a standard notice for independent software, it does not mean the file is harmful.
To continue:
- Click More info.
- Click Run anyway.
If you prefer extra reassurance, scan the downloaded file with your antivirus first, or verify you downloaded it from the official Releases page.
To update, simply download the newer edition from the Releases page.
- Portable: replace your old program file with the new one.
- Installer: run the new setup, it will update the existing installation.
Your settings are chosen per session, so there is nothing special to migrate.
