Live Search

Live Search is a standalone window for finding files and folders quickly, then acting on them. Open it from the Live Search button in the main toolbar.

Running a search

  1. Choose the folder to search in: use Browse or type the path. A grey hint invites you to type a single point ( . ) to list everything.
  2. Enter a search term: the word or phrase to look for in item names.
  3. Choose what to search: Files only, Folders only, or Files & Folders.
  4. Set the subfolder depth: root only, 1–5 levels, or unlimited.
  5. Optionally toggle case sensitivity, or enable Only hidden files to restrict the search to hidden items.
  6. Click Search. The search runs in the background; the folder currently being scanned is shown in the status bar.
  7. Click Stop at any time to cancel.

The search never freezes the window, even on large drives.

Working with results

Results appear in a grid showing the number, name, type (File or Folder), and full path. Once results are in, you can:

  • Select rows: Ctrl+Click or Shift+Click for several, or use Select All.
  • Filter live: type in the Find in results bar to filter by name, type, or format; matching rows are highlighted and the rest are dimmed, with a live counter.
  • Open or copy: double-click a row to open it in Explorer, or right-click for Copy Path and Open in Explorer.

Acting on results

With one or more rows selected:

Action What happens
Copy to… Copies the selected items to a folder you choose. Originals stay in place.
Move to… Moves the selected items to a folder you choose. Originals are removed.
Delete (Recycle) Sends the selected items to the Recycle Bin after a confirmation. You can also press the Delete key. Progress is shown, the deletion can be stopped, and protected or locked items can be retried with administrator privileges.

Exporting

Save the current results to a CSV file for your records with the export option in the Live Search window.

Tips

  • Type a single point ( . ) as the search term to list everything in the chosen scope, handy for browsing or for a broad clean-up.
  • Use Only hidden files to track down hidden clutter that Explorer does not show by default.
  • Combine a broad search with the Find in results bar to narrow down without re-scanning.
