@ayozetr ayozetr released this 25 Oct 15:42

This release brings BBSC 0.0.2, the Steam overlay as an option, fixes for possible freezes and for Hunter's Atlas with every dump of 1.09, and moves the project to GPL-3.0-or-later. It is based on bbport 0.51 and includes fixes from LanternEngine.

Requirements: your own decrypted dump of Bloodborne with update 1.09, any retail release (US,
Europe, UK, Japan, Asia, and the editions with The Old Hunters). No game files are included.
Linux x86-64 and a Vulkan 1.3 GPU.

New

  • BBSC 0.0.2 (seamless co-op, by CLS_AMG): a camera that follows a co-op partner while you are dead (Tab or R1 to switch), the kit's bells ring anywhere (a new BBSC setting), the guest sees the host's time of night, shorter message and bloodstain lists against the "Panic 265" crash, fixes around boss kills, kicks and guests dropping out, and a short timeline of each game in bbsc/logs. Everyone in a session needs BBSC 0.0.2, on Linux or Windows.
  • Steam overlay (Setup → Game, under Add to Steam, off by default): Shift+Tab, Steam's FPS counter and F12 screenshots when the game is started from Steam. Only Steam's 64-bit overlay library reaches the game; on a Wayland desktop the window opens through Xwayland, since Steam draws its overlay only on X11 windows (#28). Requested by @BlazinKarp.

Improved

  • License: the project is now GPL-3.0-or-later, because it includes code from Lantern Engine by Awaken, whose engine is GPL-3.0-or-later. Files from other projects keep their own notices.
  • Credits: the launcher's About page and docs/CREDITS.md now also thank TacticalBill, holydingus, OPGZ2, kuday248 and BlazinKarp for their reports.
  • Documentation: in English only, brought up to date, with the editions and regions of every title ID checked.

Fixed

  • Hunter's Atlas would not prepare the map with some dumps of 1.09, such as the European Game of the Year edition (#24). It compared the whole eboot.bin file, which differs between dump tools; it now compares the game's code. Reported and tested by @thomasgarafano1.
  • Two possible freezes, found by Awaken: the port could answer the game's memory requests while holding a lock the GPU side also needed, and a thread that prepares draws ahead of time could wait for the GPU thread while blocking it.
  • Stretched shapes across the screen (#25): indirect draws that take their index count from GPU memory could read stale indices, because only the part of the index data the previous draw used was kept up to date. Draws also check that the vertex descriptions prepared ahead of time are still current. From Awaken. Reported by @Nahnahchi; if you still see them, please tell us in #25.
  • Add to Steam pointed the shortcut's start folder and icon at the AppImage's temporary mount under /tmp, which is gone once it closes. They are now the AppImage's folder and a copy of the icon in the data folder.

Upgrading

  • From 0.51-linux.16: the launcher's About page installs this one.
  • If you added the game to Steam before, press Add to Steam once more so the shortcut gets its new start folder and icon.
  • For seamless co-op, everyone in the session needs BBSC 0.0.2.
  • Your saves and settings in ~/.local/share/bbport stay as they are.

Known issues

  • A crash at guest offset 0x263b8e7 can still happen on the Steam Deck (#27). If it happens often, setting Advanced → Performance → Two-stage GPU pipeline to Off should avoid it, at some cost in FPS.
  • Stretched shapes can still appear in some places (#25); the fixes above are the likely causes, not yet confirmed.
  • Amygdala's lasers can look black (#19).
  • A strong blur can stay on screen after a lamp travel (#1). It only happens with Motion Blur on, so turning it off (Graphics → Game effects) avoids it.
  • Loading screens can freeze on NVIDIA, with an Xid 109 error in the system log (#5). Turning off Motion Blur or Depth of Field may avoid it (deadinside28/bloodborne_pc#184).
  • Seamless co-op between Linux and Windows on BBSC 0.0.2 has only been tested by a few players, and a full session has not been completed yet (#17).
  • Local co-op runs a whole game per player: on a mid-range GPU at 1440p, two players get about 30 to 40 FPS each. It has been tested with two players.
  • The ghosts' cloth in Cainhurst can glitch, and some AMD integrated GPUs show no snow there.
  • On NVIDIA the new memory model is not the default yet: results vary by scene.
  • Only the 1.09 executable is supported; other versions start and then crash.
