First release of Rotoskope — a scrollable tiling KWin script for Plasma, forked from Karousel (https://github.com/peterfajdiga/karousel).
Windows are tiled into a grid without being maximized: you control column widths, windows auto-center, and you can scroll the grid when you run out of space. Works especially well on ultrawide and ultratall monitors. Pair it with kwin4_effect_geometry_change (https://github.com/peterfajdiga/kwin4_effect_geometry_change) for animations.

Features

  • Supports multiple desktops, screens, and activities.
  • Multi-row layouts — split a screen into two or more horizontal rows, each an independent grid with its own windows and scroll position (great on 4K/ultrawide or the more rare 1:1 or 16:18 monitors)
  • Per-screen, per-activity, and per-workspace row rules — the most specific matching rule wins, with a global default as fallback
  • Niri-style default keybindings — Meta focuses, Meta+Ctrl moves, Meta+U/I navigate rows, number row switches desktops
  • Independent grid and scroll position per screen; windows stay tiled across desktops and activities
  • Newly opened windows tile into the currently focused row; minimized windows are restored to their original row
  • Full keybinding set: column width presets, stacked columns (Meta+X), scroll-to-center, moving columns between desktops and screens, and more

Installation

extract to your KWin scripts directory

tar -xzf rotoskope_0_2_3.tar.gz -C ~/.local/share/kwin/scripts/

Or git clone and make install (requires npm/node/tsc). Requires the org.kde.notification QML module (qml-module-org-kde-notifications on Ubuntu). Then enable it in System Settings → Window Management → KWin Scripts and update Rotoskope shortcuts under Window Management keyboard shortcuts.

Karousel users: the script was renamed, so your old install and keybindings won't carry over — remove karousel (kpackagetool6 --type=KWin/Script --remove=karousel) and re-bind shortcuts.
