Type a message. Everyone in the voice chat hears it.

TTVC turns what you type into speech and sends it out through a virtual
microphone, so Discord, Teams, or any other voice app hears it as though you
were talking. It was built for a friend whose microphone broke, and who was
stuck typing in a text channel while everyone else talked.

This is a complete rebuild. The previous version was a soundboard with a
text-to-speech function bolted on, and it required you to go and install a
virtual audio cable yourself.

Install

  1. Download TTVC-Setup-2.0.2.exe below.
  2. Run it and accept the Windows permission prompt.
  3. Restart when it asks. The virtual microphone does not appear in Windows
until you do — skipping this is the most common reason setup seems not to
    have worked.
  4. Open TTVC. It shows you exactly which device to select in your voice app.

Windows will show "Windows protected your PC" because the installer is not
signed with a code-signing certificate — those cost money every year, and this
is a free project. Click More info → Run anyway. A SHA-256 checksum is
published below if you would rather verify the download.

What it does

  • One installer. VB-CABLE is bundled and installed silently. You do not
    install a second program.
  • A real voice. Speech is generated on your own computer by Piper. Nothing
you type is sent anywhere, there is no account or API key, and it works with
    the network unplugged.
  • Keep using your real microphone. TTVC can mix your live microphone into
the same virtual cable, so you set your voice app's input device once and
never touch it again — talk normally, and type when you want to type.
  • Hear yourself. Optionally play your messages through your own headphones,
so you can tell they went out.
  • A global shortcut brings TTVC to the front from anywhere, including from
    inside a game.

Notes

Installing a virtual audio cable makes Windows adopt it as the default playback
device, which silences every other program on the PC — browser, games, even
Discord's own sound effects — while remaining perfectly audible to everyone else
in the call. TTVC detects this and offers a one-click fix.

Credits

VB-CABLE, by VB-Audio Software, is the virtual
microphone TTVC speaks through. It is bundled with permission as donationware.
If TTVC is useful to you, the credit belongs at least as much to VB-Audio —
please consider donating to them.

Speech by Piper. TTVC itself is MIT
licensed; see LICENSE for the full list of third-party components.

Requires Windows 10 (1809 or later) or Windows 11, 64-bit.
