Overview

This release includes significant enhancements to the db_tula application, a comprehensive tool for comparing database schemas. This version improves the comparison capabilities, providing detailed insights into the differences between source and destination schemas, especially focusing on table columns.

Features

Database Connection Management:

• Save and load named database connections for quick access.
• Securely encrypt database connection strings for enhanced security.

Schema Comparison:

• Compare tables, functions, and procedures between two databases.
• Visual indication of matching, non-matching, missing in source, and missing in target items.

Detailed Analysis:

• View detailed comparisons of table columns, primary keys, and foreign keys.
• Display source and target SQL definitions for functions and procedures side by side.
• New: Enhanced column comparison feature to display differences in column names, types, and lengths between source and destination schemas.

User Interface:

• Intuitive interface with organized layout for easy navigation.
• Use dropdowns to select saved comparisons for quick schema comparisons.
• Real-time logging console to monitor comparison processes and view detailed logs.
• New: Improved right-side grid to show detailed column comparison, including source and destination columns, types, lengths, and comparison status.

Customization and Flexibility:

• Easily add new comparisons via a simple popup form.
• Edit and manage saved comparisons to keep your database connections up to date.

Application Usage

Adding a New Comparison:

1. Click the "Add New Comparison" button.
2. In the popup window, enter the comparison name, source connection string, and target connection string.
3. Click "OK" to save the comparison.

Comparing Schemas:

1. Select a saved comparison from the dropdown list.
2. Click "Compare Schemas" to start the comparison.
3. View the comparison results in the main grid.

Viewing Details:

1. Select a comparison result from the main grid.
2. View the detailed comparison in the details grid or the code display grid, depending on the type of result.

Known Issues

• Ensure all necessary permissions are granted to the executable, especially if it accesses network resources.
• If any dependencies are missing, check the project references and ensure they are included in the publishing process.

Future Enhancements

• Add automatic updates functionality.
• Improve UI/UX based on user feedback.
• Add support for additional platforms (e.g., Linux, macOS).
