Description of the need
A hook was proposed to be added to Drupal 7: https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal/issues/318328.
Modules like Flag require the contrib module https://www.drupal.org/project/translation_helpers in order to respond to source translation changes so long as this is not in core.
Proposed solution
Add the hook(s).
Alternatives that have been considered
Port https://www.drupal.org/project/translation_helpers and use that instead.
