🚀 Performance Improvements

  • Multi-Phase Pipeline Optimizations: Implemented massive concurrent pipeline optimizations. Added parallelism, reduced payload sizes, and connection pooling.
  • Concurrent Structure Pass: Leveraged tokio::join! for concurrent map setup and structure passes.
  • Enhanced Caching: Introduced a shared page decode cache and a content-addressed extraction cache, significantly speeding up document ingestion.

✨ Features & Enhancements

  • Advanced LaTeX & Math Parsing: Overhauled the LaTeX parser to improve rendering and extraction accuracy. Added robust pre-processing pipelines (preprocess-math.ts, remark-math-fix.ts).
  • Improved Image Rendering: Optimised the rendering flow for images within documents, providing better quality and stability.
  • Marker Client Integration: Added marker_client.rs for improved document intelligence and extraction models.
  • Update Checker: Introduced a brand new UpdateChecker UI component to keep the app seamlessly up to date.
  • Refactored Rich Text Editor: Significant improvements and cleanup to the RichTextEditor for a smoother user experience.

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • UI Restoration: Restored missing UI elements, tags, badges, and layouts that were impacted during recent codebase refactoring.
  • Softer Error Handling: Failed imports now yield softer, more manageable errors and warnings instead of hard failures.
  • Tauri Build & Config: Restored index.html and updated Tauri identifiers and capabilities to fix application build issues.
  • LaTeX Formatting Issues: Resolved residual LaTeX formatting glitches that inadvertently affected the application infrastructure.
  • GitHub Actions: Synchronized workflow secrets and mappings for robust CI/CD releases.

🧹 Housekeeping & Chores

  • Repository Cleanup: Cleaned up unnecessary repository files, removed old test scripts, and optimized .gitignore.
  • Reduced Footprint: Removed bulky test PDFs and binaries from the repository for a lighter footprint.
  • Engine Tuning: Ongoing tuning and refinement of the organic engine model.

MergeMark Beta (v0.9.2)

@github-actions github-actions released this 30 Jul 20:39

Welcome to MergeMark v0.9.2! This update brings significant improvements to our ingestion engine, ensuring crystal-clear diagram rendering, as well as highly requested features like Anki export and custom taxonomy management.

✨ What's New

  • Anki Import & Export: You can now seamlessly export your flashcards directly to Anki, making spaced repetition studying more connected than ever.
  • Custom Subject Taxonomy: Take control of your repository organization. The new Taxonomy Manager allows you to define custom subjects and topics, tailoring the workspace exactly to your curriculum needs.
  • Interactive Diagram Zoom (Lightbox): Diagrams and figures now support a click-to-enlarge lightbox. Even if a question card shrinks an image to fit your screen, you can open it to its native high-resolution size to inspect tiny details like axis labels or circuit values.
  • High-DPI Document Rendering: We've overhauled the document rendering pipeline. Pages are now rendered at ~200 DPI (over 3x the previous resolution) with improved JPEG quality. Say goodbye to blurry subscripts and mushy line-art.
  • Rich Text & UI Polish: We've ironed out several UI quirks in the Rich Text Editor and repository modals for a smoother editing experience.

🔧 Technical Improvements

  • Vector-Aware PDF Processing: The ingestion pipeline now intelligently detects vector paths (lines, curves, strokes) in addition to raster images. Physics and mechanics pages containing native PDF drawings will no longer be bypassed by the text-only fast path.
  • Vision API Optimization: Image payloads now request detail: high for OpenAI-compatible vision models, ensuring the AI can read complex diagrams without downsampling.
  • Expanded Context Windows: We've doubled the max_output_tokens budget for PDF vision parsing (from 16k to 32k) to prevent output truncation on lengthy question derivations.
  • Foundational Pipeline Prep: The rendering engine overhaul lays the groundwork for Phase 1 (sub-page splitting and MCQ slicing) by guaranteeing accurate pixel-per-page coordinates.

🐛 Bug Fixes & Refactors

  • Sentinel Image Corruption: Fixed a critical bug where the literal string 'TEXT_ONLY' was being sent as a base64 image during multi-page chunks, which corrupted API requests and caused model refusals.
  • UI & Styling: Updated the app logo background color and resolved minor alignment bugs across the repository feed.
  • Documentation: Updated the project README with comprehensive features, tech stack details, and an installation guide.

MergeMark Beta (v0.9.0)

Pre-release

@github-actions github-actions released this 19 Jul 18:22
mergemark-full

🚀 Welcome to the very first release of MergeMark!

MergeMark is a local workspace designed to instantly transform questions into clean, customizable question cards. No data ever leaves your computer.

How It Works

  1. Drop a PDF: Drag and drop an exam paper or question booklet into the import zone.
  2. Process for Free: The MergeMark engine automatically handles your first 3 uploads completely for free, routing them through Gemini 2.5 Flash.
  3. Review & Export: Review the extracted questions, quarantine any layout edge cases, and instantly copy or export the structured code into your notes workflow.

Core Use Cases

  • For Teachers: Rapidly extract specific questions across different exam boards to build targeted topic tests and worksheets - without ever fighting with PDF formatting.
  • For Students: Convert static, messy PDF past papers into clean, modular questions perfect for structuring active recall templates.

🔒 Local-First & BYOK (Bring Your Own Key)

  • 100% Private: Your files and extracted questions live strictly on your machine in a local database. Your data is never uploaded, tracked, or stored on a central server.
  • Unlimited Wholesaling: To keep the app free of expensive subscription models, MergeMark features a Bring-Your-Own-Key system. Once your 3 free tier uploads are used, simply input your own personal AI provider key (like OpenAI) in the Settings tab to process unlimited papers at raw wholesale cost.

🛠️ Known Beta Limitations

This is a v0.9.0 pre-release build, meaning it is feature-complete but still being actively refined:

  • Subject Focus: This initial build is specifically optimized for GCSE and A-Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics layouts.
  • Complex Formatting: Highly nested mathematical expressions may occasionally require a quick manual touch-up in the review panel before exporting.

🎯 What's Coming Next & Feedback

I am actively working toward a stable v1.0.0 release, which will include integration with Anki/Quizlet and expanded subject support.
