v0.14.0
What's New
Ocean Brain 0.14.0 adds scoped integrations, restructures MCP around fewer and more capable workflows, and makes live external note edits reviewable inside the editor.
Scoped integrations
Settings now includes an Integrations page for independently hosted apps. Each connection has its own manifest, token, enabled state, optional top-bar entry, and owner-approved notes:read, notes:create, notes:update, and notes:delete grants. External apps can use the versioned integration API and optionally open inside Ocean Brain in a sandboxed page.
To connect an app, open Settings → Integrations → Connect app, choose its manifest JSON, approve the requested permissions, generate a token, configure that token in the app's backend, and enable the connection. MCP is now represented by the same permission system as a built-in integration; existing MCP enabled state and the latest active token are migrated automatically.
MCP compatibility 0.14
The MCP catalog now favors complete workflows over many narrowly overlapping tools. query_notes replaces the tag, recent-note, and property-query variants. list_views and read_view expose saved views, while read_note supports paged and heading-based reads and keeps backlinks in every page. Search results include excerpts, tool responses include structured data, and note creation can atomically set existing property values.
The following names were removed from the catalog:
| Removed | Replacement |
|---|---|
list_notes_by_tag, list_notes_by_tags |
query_notes with tagNames and mode |
list_recent_notes |
query_notes without filters |
query_notes_by_properties |
query_notes with property filters and optional propertyKeys |
create_tag |
Include [@tag] in note Markdown |
find_note_cleanup_candidates |
Search or query candidates, read them, then call delete_note for selected IDs |
This is an incompatible MCP contract change from compatibility 0.11 to 0.14. Upgrade the Ocean Brain server and MCP adapter together, then restart or reconnect the MCP client so it reloads the tool catalog. Existing tokens are preserved, but an older adapter is rejected with an upgrade message.
Inline review for external edits
When MCP or another integration updates a clean note, the editor now reloads it without disrupting the scroll position and highlights added or modified blocks. Done reviewing clears the marks. Local drafts still use the existing conflict flow, and comparison of large rewrites has been optimized for long notes.
Upgrade
Stop Ocean Brain and back up the database and uploaded-image directories together before upgrading. Database migrations run automatically on startup. Rolling back to an older binary requires the matching pre-upgrade database backup because legacy MCP credential records stop receiving updates after migration.
For npm, update the exact package version in the existing command:
OCEAN_BRAIN_PASSWORD='choose-a-strong-password' \
OCEAN_BRAIN_SESSION_SECRET='paste-a-long-random-secret-here' \
npx -y ocean-brain@0.14.0 serve --host 127.0.0.1For Docker, pull and use the exact image tag in the existing run or Compose configuration:
docker pull baealex/ocean-brain:0.14.0Included changes
- Add inline review for live MCP note changes
- Optimize large external note change comparisons
- Add scoped integrations and simplify MCP workflows
- Bump version to 0.14.0
