Laptop does not suspend when the lid is closed

What's wrong?

Description:

When I close the laptop lid, the system does not go to sleep (suspend) as expected.

Expected behavior:

The laptop should automatically enter sleep mode when the lid is closed.

Actual behavior:

Closing the lid has no effect, the system continues running instead of suspending.

• I have uncommented those below lines from /etc/systemd/logind.conf:

HandleLidSwitch=suspend
HandleLidSwitchDocked=ignore
HandleLidSwitchExternalPower=suspend

• but nothing happend

I've had the same issue. What caused it was the Power Profile. Whenever set to performance it breaks the suspend functionality for me. Try setting it to balanced or power_saver. I'm guessing NVIDIA driver isn't playing nice with suspension while trying to give graphics card as much juice as possible.

It might be related to how the system handles the lid switch when docked or connected to an external monitor. You could try adjusting the following in /etc/systemd/logind.conf:

HandleLidSwitchDocked=suspend

Also, check your BIOS/UEFI power settings, some laptops have options that control lid behavior (like “Sleep when lid closed”) which can override the OS settings.

@israelfaria I have tried change the power profile and nothing work

@ddVital there are no option for the lid control and I have tried the /etc/systemd/logind.conf and there is nothing work

Same issue here. Won't suspend on lid close but does suspend through the Omarchy menu.

Similar bug on my Lenovo X1 Gen12. The issue was related to the WWAN adapter. Maybe related?

@xElkomy were you able to get this resolved? I had the same problem with my legion 5 as well. Any Linux distro wont suspend at all.

So... I figured this out for my system but it might not work for everyone. In my case, adding this kernel flag worked: mem_sleep_default=deep
