Issue description

I have Batocera 41, and the Nvidia GT 730 card only works with the Nouveau drivers. Attempting to force Nvidia's proprietary drivers using nvidia-driver=legacy470 results in a crash, while setting nvidia-driver=true causes the Nouveau drivers to be used instead.
In Batocera 40, however, it works fine and uses Nvidia's proprietary drivers.

Install Batocera.
Change files batocera-boot.conf

It is a known issue but can't be fixed in V41 either you update to V42 butterfly and test it or revert to V40

Batocera 42 20250126 doesn't work at all with either the Nouveau driver or the proprietary Nvidia driver. It's a completely black screen. If I had an Nvidia card that supports the latest Nvidia drivers, say a 1660 Super, would it also be bugged in Batocera 41?

I am running into the same issue with a GTX 770.
It was running fine on V40.
However upgrading to v41 I am getting the same symptoms. I tried all config combinations I can come up with and ultimately upgraded to the butterfly release but it is still not working.
The log files say that my card matches the json and it tells me that I should use legacy470 but non of it works.
I've been on it for 3 days now tying everything with no success.

it is likely the end of the road for legacy nvidia cards support in Batocera. old drivers don't play well with newer kernels.

I have batocera-x86_64-42-20250208 and I managed to get the 470 driver working on my laptop with a GT755M. The API mismatch error was the clue. It seems that batocera-nvidia is creating symlinks for the 570 driver in /lib and /lib32, even though it does link to the correct 470 nvidia modules.

I copied and pasted all of the legacy470 lines from batocera-nvidia into a separate script that would recreate the correct symlinks and unload and reload the modules. I did /etc/init.d/S31emulationstation stop, ran that script, then did /etc/init.d/S31emulationstation start. It then worked as it should, and works fine with my 4k tv (Unlike with the current production driver)

I have nvidia-driver=legacy470 in my batocera-boot.conf file.

See if this quick fix works for you:

1. Set nvidia-driver=nouveau in /boot/batocera-boot.conf (Either on another computer or through ssh then mount -o remount,rw /boot )
2. (re)boot Batocera
3. ssh back into it or get to the terminal via the Batocera file manager
4. nano /usr/bin/batocera-nvidia
5. Scroll down to line 270 : "elif echo "$MODE" | grep -q -E '^(legacy470|legacy340|legacy390)$'; then"
6. Insert this line underneath the current one: find -L /lib32 /usr/lib -name '*${NVIDIA_DRIVER_VERSION}*' -delete
7. Close out of nano.
8. batocera-save-overlay
9. Reboot.

They fixed it in the beta version available at the time and everything worked. I haven't tested it now because I don't have the card anymore.

I'm trying to get an old pc with a 9500 GT card to run with nvidia's OpenGL drivers but all I get is Mesa drivers (tried 5.26, v30, etc, using "legacy" and "legacy340"), which version do I have to use in order to get this legacy card to work?
