SimpleSpread v1.3.0: pivot tables

Note: This build is arm64 (Apple Silicon) only.
If Gatekeeper blocks the app, right-click → Open on first launch.

Pivot tables

Summarize a table of data by region, month, product or anything else, the
way you would in Excel. See the pivot table guide.

  • Insert ▸ PivotTable… creates one from the data around the cursor, on a
new sheet or the current one.
  • The PivotTable Fields panel: check fields to add them, or drag them
into Rows, Columns, Values and Filters.
  • Summarize by sum, count, average, max, min and more. Show values as a
percentage of the total, row or column, a difference from or percentage
of another item, or a running total.
  • Filter items, sort, show subtotals and grand totals, list items with no
data, add blank lines, and choose a compact, outline or tabular layout.
  • Group dates by years, quarters, months or days, and numbers into ranges.
  • Data ▸ Refresh (⌥F5) and Refresh All (⌃⌥F5) pick up changes to
    the source data.
  • Pivot tables in Excel files open, recompute, refresh and save, and
pivots made in SimpleSpread open in Excel. Layouts were checked cell by
    cell against Excel itself.
  • The new GETPIVOTDATA function reads values out of a pivot table.

A few Excel pivot features can't be recalculated yet: data from OLAP cubes
or the Data Model, calculated items, label and value filters, and the
newer Show Values As options such as Rank. Pivot tables that use them keep
their values and are saved back unchanged for Excel.

Fixes

  • Long chains of formulas, such as a running total thousands of rows long,
    no longer crash the app.
  • Long names no longer crash the formula parser.
  • Sheet names with leading or trailing apostrophes are cleaned up.
  • Rows no longer get taller every time an Excel file is saved.
  • Cells in Excel files no longer pick up the wrong custom number format.
  • Custom formats written as "General" (as LibreOffice does) now read as
    General.

Speed

Opening files is as fast as in 1.2.6, and still about 2.5–3 times faster
than Numbers opens the same files.
