First public release of Ableton Device Creator: a Python library and adc command-line tool for building and batch-editing Ableton Live devices.

pip install "ableton-device-creator[cli]"
adc drum-rack create path/to/samples/ -o MyKit.adg

What it does

  • Build devices from sample folders: Drum Racks (auto-categorized kick/snare/hat/...), multi-sample Samplers, and one Simpler per sample.
  • Batch-edit existing kits, each result checked against the original file before it is written: drum-rack unmap, hide-macros, ungroup, auto-select, color, remap.
  • Lighten multisample racks (sampler thin) and set envelope parameters across a library (sampler set-env).
  • Zero dependencies for the core library; Click for the CLI. Python 3.8-3.14.

Notes

  • Opening the generated devices needs Ableton Live 12.1 or later (the bundled Simpler template needs 12.2). The default templates ship inside the package.
  • drum-rack create places pads starting at the template's first pad, E3 (MIDI 64), and deletes pads it doesn't fill.
