Does the card need a redesign?

With HA 2026.04 their Gauge card got a redesign to better fit within the entire UX of Home Assistant. In the past I've already got some questions whether my card supports a 'thinner' main-gauge style.

I do feel the current layout has some 'uniqueness' to it, as there are other gauge cards out there with multiple gauges, but have this more 'thinner' (equal) look-and-feel to them.

This discussion is meant for me to see what others think the card should look like and whether there is a big general consensus with that. I (currently) don't want to support multiple styles as an option. I'm also quite happy with the current semi-circle shape and the overall information-density of the card). But I'm open for other ideas

Hi Benjamin,
first of all big thanksvfor your card! I meanwhile used it almost everywhere where to display values. And the climate extension fits very good as well!
From my point of view it's right ok as it is! The two icons offering additional value display and actions made it complete!

You card offers so much additional functionality that despite the newly designed internal gauge card in 2026.4, I will not be changing any of my dashboards.

But with that said, yes, if you pursued a more contemporary look similar to the new internal card, I would likely switch to it when it supports your current functionality.

I LOVE your card, and I use it all the time. You asked if the card needs a redesign? I don't think so. Unless you are getting lots of bug reports I think you should consider the design mature. Besides, changing it now might cause many use it to drop it because the won't like the new design. It looks Great. it works Great. Don't rub it raw

With your talent, it seems you could really do a bang-up job tackling some other cards us weather buffs could really use - we wish that SOMEONE who could come up with a card that could visualize Wind Speed and DIRECTION over time. Many people have tried to do it, but nobody has been successful yet. I think the closest has been the charts they use in Weather Underground.

Thank for your comment! I believe bugs shouldn't be a reason for a redesign 😋. I just want to make sure people still like the design in the this day and age. But by the looks of the comments at apparently still is 😉

I am aware of this 'feature'-request, you are not the first asking this question 😀. However my current code is very much focused on the circular shape of the gauges. It would make a completely different card to make it horizontal. I currently don't really have the time to create such card.

@benjamin-dcs , you know I'm already a fan of your gauge card. I personally like it as it is! Better than the default one. Only if they want to replace the default gauge with yours I can tell that default is better 😂

After installing 2026.4.0 I have a mix of Gauge Card Pro and the new much thinner and modern default gauge.

To fit the design of Gauge Card Pro with the default design it would be nice to adjust it to the thinner design.

Right now I'm going to keep my card as is. If I'll ever chance the design it won't be an exact copy of the HA card either. I don't really like the way it's currently done

I think it looks a bit more modern and fits quite good. Probably just needs to get used to.

After updating to Home Assistant Core 2024.4.2 I realized that the new modern gauge style was pulled back to the previous thicker gauge.

With this version a new needle style was introduced.

Is there any chance to transfer this new needle style with the outerline to Gauge Card Pro?

What do you think?

Already possible. You can set custom shapes for needles etc:

HA now uses:
M -34,-3 L -48,-1 A 1,1,0,0,0,-48,1 L -34,3 A 2,2,0,0,0,-34,-3 Z

You can set several custom CSS variables using uix or card_mod.
