SheepDrop 1.4

Choose a tag to compare

@bestonehxh bestonehxh released this 09 Oct 09:31

SheepDrop now updates itself: it checks for a new version when it opens and once a day, and installs it with one click.

  • In-app updates: automatic, or SheepDrop ▸ Check for Updates… to check right away. Release notes are behind Details…
  • Signed updates: every update is verified against SheepDrop's own signing key before anything is unpacked; one that does not verify is never installed

This version has to be installed by hand once; from here on, SheepDrop updates itself.

Unsigned build — first launch: right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in
System Settings › Privacy & Security. Download SheepDrop-1.4.zip, unzip, and drag SheepDrop.app
into Applications. Requires macOS 26.4 or later, Apple Silicon.

SheepDrop 1.3

@bestonehxh bestonehxh released this 02 Oct 12:20
  • SSH is now SheepDrop's own implementation on Apple's crypto — no bundled OpenSSL or libssh.
  • Security fixes for the built-in servers: nothing is served before login, the served folder can't be escaped through symlinks, and failed logins and connection floods are limited. Updating is strongly recommended if you use the SFTP/SCP server.
  • Much faster SFTP transfers — large firmware images move at full link speed.
  • Cancel a running transfer from the transfer bar; an interrupted download never leaves a partial file.
  • A cleaner, easier-to-read interface: larger text, simpler layout, and each action in one obvious place.
  • Many reliability fixes: empty files, dropped connections, SCP to Unix hosts, FTP servers, and more.

Unsigned build — first launch: right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in
System Settings › Privacy & Security. Download SheepDrop-1.3.zip, unzip, and drag SheepDrop.app
into Applications. Requires macOS 26.4 or later, Apple Silicon.

SheepDrop 1.2

@bestonehxh bestonehxh released this 17 Sep 01:58
  • New Liquid Glass look for macOS 26/27: a see-through glass window, glass toolbar controls, cards and buttons
  • The window buttons now sit cleanly inside the sidebar
  • New icon on the Serve screen
  • Turning a server Off now also disconnects devices that are already logged in
  • Servers keep their standard ports (69 / 22 / 21) when restarted, e.g. after changing the served folder
  • Interrupted uploads from a device no longer damage the existing file on the Mac
  • FTP connections can no longer hang on an unresponsive or NAT'd server
  • Sidebar groups can be renamed, reordered and deleted from their menu; the connected dot updates live

Unsigned build — first launch: right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in
System Settings › Privacy & Security. Download SheepDrop-1.2.zip, unzip, and drag SheepDrop.app
into Applications. Requires macOS 26.4 or later, Apple Silicon.

SheepDrop 1.1

@bestonehxh bestonehxh released this 11 Sep 04:31
  • Safer downloads — a file is only replaced once the new copy has fully arrived. A refused or interrupted download no longer wipes the existing file on your Mac or leaves a half-written firmware image behind.
  • Built-in FTP server can no longer be told to delete the shared folder or overwrite a folder; deletes and uploads are limited to files.
  • Built-in SFTP / SCP server is more robust: fixed a memory-safety bug when a session closes, and oversized read requests no longer crash the app.
  • Built-in TFTP server: sessions no longer hang when a device goes quiet after option negotiation, duplicate acknowledgements no longer cause resent blocks, and very large images stay correct past the block-number wraparound.
  • Stricter host-key check — if a server suddenly presents a different type of host key than the one you trusted, SheepDrop now refuses and explains why, instead of silently accepting it.
  • Connections are no longer dropped just because a file name contains words like "timeout" or the digits "421".
  • Your saved host list is protected: if it can't be read (for example after a downgrade), it is set aside rather than overwritten.
  • Includes the refreshed app icon and the stability fixes made since 1.0.

Unsigned build — first launch: right-click the app and choose Open, or allow it in
System Settings › Privacy & Security. Download SheepDrop-1.1.zip, unzip, and drag SheepDrop.app
into Applications. Requires macOS 26.4 or later, Apple Silicon.

SheepDrop 1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@bestonehxh bestonehxh released this 28 Aug 13:08

SheepDrop 1.0 — first release 🐑

A native macOS SFTP / SCP / FTP / TFTP file-transfer app for network engineers: a dual-pane client, and a built-in server a switch can pull from (or back up to) with its own copy scp: / copy tftp: command.

Install

Download SheepDrop-1.0.zip, unzip, and drag SheepDrop.app into Applications.

The build is unsigned (not notarized), so macOS warns on first launch — right-click the app and choose Open, or run:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/SheepDrop.app

Requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later, Apple Silicon.

Highlights

  • SFTP / SCP dual-pane browsing — SCP browses like WinSCP when the device serves the subsystem
  • Built-in TFTP / SFTP-SCP / FTP servers so a device can pull or push files from your Mac — no separate TFTP daemon
  • Modern-first, legacy-fallback SSH so old Cisco / Aruba / HPE gear still connects (RSA + ed25519 host keys)
  • Live transfer progress + request log; passwords stored only in the macOS Keychain
