Repositions ClojureMCP around the REPL. Current frontier models edit Clojure reliably with the built-in editors of Claude Code and Codex, so the new :repl profile, which gives the agent clojure_eval, list_nrepl_ports and paren_repair and leaves all reading and editing to the host, is now the recommended setup. The structure-aware editors and the rest of the full toolkit still work, but are now in maintenance mode. Also tightens read_file output with cat -n style line numbers and no markdown wrapping.

Major Changes

New recommended :repl profile

  • :config-profile :repl: REPL-only toolset for CLI coding agents: clojure_eval, list_nrepl_ports and paren_repair, with no prompts or resources. Uses allowlists, so tools added to ClojureMCP later stay off unless the profile lists them. Add structural editors back selectively with :add-tools, e.g. :add-tools '[:clojure_edit]'.
  • README rewritten around the REPL: what ClojureMCP is now, where the project is headed, and :repl setup for Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI. Claude Desktop setup, the :cli-assist* profiles, agent-tool API keys, the full tool list and file-tool configuration moved to doc/full-toolkit.md.

Changed

  • read_file line numbers: The raw view prefixes every line with a cat -n style line number (honoring line_offset). The collapsed Clojure view numbers every line of expanded forms and shows the starting line of collapsed signatures, including inside reader conditionals.
  • read_file output is plain: Results no longer include markdown code fences, file-name preambles or repeated usage tips. Truncated reads start with File truncated: showing N of M lines, and collapsed text-file views start with a match count.

Removed

  • Code indexer: The :index alias (clojure -X:index) and .clojure-mcp/code_index.txt support are gone. Agent tools' default context is now PROJECT_SUMMARY.md (if present) plus the current project structure.
