Tiler v0.8.2
Tiler 0.8.2
New:
- A light-green frame around the active window. On a tiled desktop, the window that has focus gets a frame in the gap around it, so it is obvious where typing goes. Windows stacked above it still cover the frame. Change the colour and width, or turn it off, in Settings → General → Active window.
Changed:
- Focus follows mouse no longer brings a tiled window over an untiled one. When a floating or other untiled window overlaps the window under the pointer, that window gets focus without being raised. Windows nothing overlaps are focused and raised as before. Known limit: in apps with several windows, keyboard focus may stay in the app's other window.
Configuration: two new settings, activeBorder ("#90EE90" or "none") and activeBorderWidth (4). After upgrading, open Settings and choose Add Missing Settings.
Install: brew upgrade --cask tiler (or brew tap biks2013-tools/tiler && brew install --cask tiler), or download the zip or disk image below. Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple; universal (Apple silicon and Intel), macOS 14 or later.
Tiler v0.8.1
Tiler 0.8.1
Fixes:
- ⌥⌘ + drag swaps tiles reliably. Dropping a tiled window onto another tile now swaps them (or snaps back) every time, even when the app is slow to report its window moves.
- The dragged window stays on top. A window moved with ⌥⌘ + drag comes to the front as soon as it is grabbed instead of sliding behind the tiled windows.
- Grab works in Electron/Chromium apps on the first press. If the accessibility lookup finds no window, Tiler uses the window the window server shows under the pointer.
- New windows split the active window. A new window halves the window you were using when it opened, including one opened from a window that itself just opened.
- Freshly launched apps tile at once. Windows an app opens while it is still launching no longer wait for an unrelated event before they tile.
No configuration changes.
Install: brew upgrade --cask tiler (or brew tap biks2013-tools/tiler && brew install --cask tiler), or download the zip or disk image below. Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple; universal (Apple silicon and Intel), macOS 14 or later.
Tiler v0.8.0
Tiler 0.8.0
⌥⌘M unminimizes every minimized window of the frontmost app, on any desktop. On a tiled desktop the restored windows rejoin the layout. Rebind it in Settings → Shortcuts (it takes over the system's ⌥⌘M "Minimize All" in apps that have it).
- Upgrading: the config needs the new
hotkeys.unminimizeAllkey — Settings → General → Add Missing Settings adds it.
Universal (Apple silicon and Intel), macOS 14+, Developer ID signed and notarized.
brew upgrade --cask tiler
Tiler v0.7.0
Tiler 0.7.0
⌥⌘ + drag moves a window from anywhere in it, on any desktop, tiled or not. The click never reaches the app (no text selection, no link opened). On a tiled desktop, drop a tiled window on another tile to swap them; anywhere else it snaps back.
- Choose other keys or turn it off in Settings → General → Drag windows with (config key
dragToMove, e.g."alt+cmd"or"none"). - Upgrading: the config needs the new
dragToMovekey — Settings → General → Add Missing Settings adds it. - Tiler's only active event tap: left-button press/drag/release only, on its own thread; zero CPU at rest.
Universal (Apple silicon and Intel), macOS 14+, Developer ID signed and notarized.
brew upgrade --cask tiler
Tiler v0.6.0
Tiler 0.6.0: send the focused window to another desktop.
What's new
- Move the focused window to the previous / next desktop with ⌃⌘, and ⌃⌘. — and you go with it. Works from any desktop, tiled or not.
- Arriving on a tiled desktop, the window joins the layout; leaving one, it drops out of that layout. A floating window stays floating, with its size and position.
- Tiler shows a short note instead of moving when there is no desktop on that side, when the neighbour is a full-screen app's space, or when the window is a dialog or panel.
- macOS no longer lets apps move windows between desktops directly, so Tiler does it the way you would by hand: it holds the window by its title bar and presses your Mission Control shortcut. Keep Move left a space / Move right a space turned on in System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → Mission Control (they are on by default; a custom key is fine).
- Upgrading: open Settings… and click Add Missing Settings once; it adds the two new shortcuts and changes nothing else.

Tiler v0.5.0
Tiler 0.5.0: floating windows keep their size and position.
What's new
- Floating windows remember where they were. Tiler records a floating window's size and position whenever it moves or changes size (by dragging, with ⌃⌘M, or by the app itself).
- After Tiler restarts, each floating window goes back to its saved size and position.
- Floating a window again after tiling it (⌃⌘T twice) puts it back where it last floated instead of centring it. A window is centred only the first time it floats, or if its saved spot is no longer on that display.
- Everything is forgotten when the window closes or its app quits.
- No configuration changes.

Tiler v0.4.0
Tiler 0.4.0: floating windows are remembered, and focus can follow the mouse.
What's new
- Floating windows persist. A window you float with ⌃⌘T stays floating when Tiler restarts (as long as the window is still open). Hidden or minimised floating windows no longer fall back into the tiles.
- Focus follows mouse (optional). Turn it on from the menu bar icon → Focus Follows Mouse, or in Settings → General → Focus, where you can set the delay (default 150 ms). On tiled desktops, the window under the pointer gets focus once the pointer rests there; passing over a window does not focus it. Open menus, the app switcher, popovers and floating windows on top are respected, and desktops Tiler doesn't tile are left alone.
- Built to cost nothing: zero CPU while the mouse is still and about 0.15 % of one core while it moves. A listen-only listener wakes Tiler on the first movement, then Tiler checks the pointer 25 times a second until it stops, instead of handling every mouse event.
- Upgrading: your config file gains two settings (
focusFollowsMouse, focusDelay). Tiler reports them as missing; open Settings… and click Add Missing Settings — it adds just those and changes nothing else.

Tiler v0.3.0
Tiler 0.3.0 adds keyboard move and resize for windows Tiler isn't tiling.
What's new
-
Move or resize untiled windows with the keyboard. Press ⌃⌘M (or menu bar icon → Move or Resize Window) while you're in a floating window, or in any window on a desktop Tiler doesn't tile. A small hint appears at the bottom of the screen:
- ← ↑ → ↓ move 40 pt (hold to keep moving), ⇧ + arrows resize (→ ↓ grow, ← ↑ shrink), ⌥ for fine 8 pt steps
- C centres the window, M fills the screen
- ↩, esc or ⌃⌘M again ends it; switching app or desktop, or clicking, ends it too
The arrow keys are taken only while the mode is on, so your apps keep them otherwise. Tiled windows are left alone (float one with ⌃⌘T first).
-
Upgrading is one click. Your 0.2 config file has no key for the new shortcut, so Tiler reports it (it never fills settings in silently). Open Settings… and click Add Missing Shortcuts: it adds just the new key and changes nothing else.

Tiler v0.2.0
Tiler 0.2.0. A notarized macOS menu bar app that tiles windows Hyprland-style (BSP dwindle), but only on the desktop you turn it on for: one Space on one display. Every other display and desktop is left exactly as it is.
