Features

Anichron surfaces your personal photo and video library as a daily memory experience — self-hosted on your own NAS.

On This Day

Every day Anichron picks all the photos and videos from that exact calendar date across every year in your library. You see what you were doing one year ago, five years ago, ten years ago — all in one place.

Story experience

Memories are presented as a full-screen story, similar to Instagram Stories:

  • Tap right / left to advance or rewind
  • Hold to pause and reveal the photo's metadata (date, location, camera)
  • Live Photos — holding on a Live Photo automatically plays the paired .MOV clip
  • Burst groups — rapid-fire sequences are treated as a single story card with swipeable sub-frames, so ten near-identical shots don't flood your flashback

Interactions

You can shape what you see in future flashbacks:

Action Effect
Star Always shown; sorted first within its year group
Like Increases the chance it appears when a date has many candidates
Hide Permanently excluded from all flashback views

Interaction state is private per user — family members never see each other's stars or hides.

Recaps & Calendar

Beyond the daily flashback:

  • Calendar view — monthly grid with dots on days that have memories; tap any day to enter its flashback
  • Monthly recap — a scrollable gallery of everything from a given month
  • Seasonal recap — Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter groupings across years
  • Yearly recap — highlight reel for a full year

Notifications

Anichron can send a daily email at a time you choose, containing a thumbnail grid of today's memories and a deep link that opens the story directly. Opt-in per user; skipped automatically if you have no memories for today.

Multi-user

Multiple people can share the same Anichron instance:

  • Each user has their own NAS folder (or folders)
  • Interaction state (stars, likes, hides) is completely private
  • Family libraries are supported — two users can point at the same NAS path

Self-hosted & private

  • Runs entirely on your own hardware via Docker Compose
  • No accounts, no cloud sync, no telemetry sent anywhere by default
  • Originals are never modified — Anichron reads your NAS as read-only
  • Licensed under AGPL-3.0
