False machine-readable claim when markdown offering is off (Defect A).
The bundled /llms.txt now serves its "Machine-readable content" section
only when both markdown offering is enabled and negotiation is
confirmed (self-test working, or the owner override below). Previously the
claim was suppressed only on blocked, so a site with "Offer markdown to
agents" switched off still told agents it serves markdown on request, despite
serving none at all.
Weak self-test URL selection (Defect B).mdf_negotiation_test_url() is
replaced by candidate selection that skips non-public post types, password
protected and non-publish posts, and zero-byte or missing cached .md
files; prefers the front page and then the most recently modified qualifying
item; verifies each chosen URL is publicly reachable (HTTP 200) before
drawing any conclusion; and probes up to three distinct URLs. A chosen URL
that 404s now yields unknown with an explanatory detail instead of a
misleading result. A mix of markdown and HTML across probes is reported blocked naming the split; working is reported only when every probe that
returned 200 returned markdown. The retry, re-entry guard, 5-second timeout, redirection 0, and self-test UA remain.
Added
Owner confirmation override. When offering is on and the self-test is unknown (common on hosts that block loopback requests), the Settings page
offers a checkbox to confirm negotiation manually, next to the exact curl
command and the expected response (content-type: text/markdown, Vary: Accept). Stored in its own mdf_negotiation_owner_confirmed option
(autoload off); never enabled by default or set programmatically; cleared
automatically when offering is switched off or when a later self-test reports blocked (evidence beats the earlier assertion). Nonce and manage_options as with every other state change.
The Settings page now always shows the negotiation state and whether the
machine-readable claim is published or withheld, with the reason
legible in one line: offering off, unconfirmed (loopback failed), confirmed
by self-test, confirmed by owner, or blocked with the cache named. A note
reminds owners with custom llms.txt content that their saved text is
published verbatim.
Changed
mdf_get_servable_llms_txt() gates the bundled claim on mdf_negotiation_claim_confirmed() (offering on and confirmed) rather
than only on blocked. Owner-supplied mdf_llms_txt content is still served
verbatim in every state.
