MCProster 0.2.1
MCProster 0.2.1 — a module of the Blackberrylabs control tower.
Nothing changes on screen; the plumbing underneath does.
New
mcproster report: the inventory as abbl-report/1document (always JSON), for the Blackberrylabs tower. Nothing in it is new — the four figures of the cards, the findings (disabled servers included, as information), the declaring files and the same actionsfindingsprints, secrets masked as everywhere else. Severity mapping: secret in clear = act now; wide access, confirmations skipped = review; duplicate, versions differ, command missing, context cost = good to know; unreadable, disabled, not in cache = information.mcproster-app --select <server>opens the app on that server, the way the tower does.
Changed
- The common ground of the host rules (schema, loading, path resolution, readers, secret masking) now lives in
bbl-hostrules, and the interface inbbl-ui— the crates shared by the Blackberrylabs tools. Byte-identical output, pixel-identical interface; the only visible difference is in--json hosts(hints.remove/hints.listinstead ofremove_hint/list_hint).
sudo apt install ./mcproster_0.2.1-1_amd64.deb # Debian / Ubuntu
sudo dnf install ./mcproster-0.2.1-1.x86_64.rpm # Fedora
chmod +x MCProster-0.2.1-x86_64.AppImage # any distribution
MCProster 0.2.0
MCProster 0.2.0 — what your MCP servers cost in the model's context.
Every host sends the definitions of every tool to the model with every request; one user measured 43 000 tokens of a 99 000-token window gone before the first word. MCProster already receives those definitions when it probes a server — 0.2 weighs them.
New
- Context cost: after a probe, ~tokens per tool, per server (three heaviest) and per host — summed per application, "at least" when some servers are not probed, Claude Code marked as an upper bound since it can load tools on demand. A
context-costfinding above ~5 000 tokens for one server or ~20 000 for one host, with the action to take.mcproster context; a~tokenscolumn and a "Context cost per host" block in the app. Method, thresholds and limits indocs/context-cost.md. - Test all:
mcproster probe --all(and a Test all button) probes every enabled stdio server, one launch per distinct command, after one confirmation that lists the commands (--yesfor scripts). - Not in cache: an
npx/uvxserver whose package is not in the local cache is flagged as information — it works, but downloads first. - Actions in the CLI:
mcproster findingsprints, under each finding, the host's own command or where to edit, as the app already did.
Changed
- Probe results no longer keep tool descriptions on disk:
probes.jsonholds names, versions, sizes and tokens only. - Failed probes are counted apart from servers not probed yet.
Still: read-only, no network, remote servers never contacted. Estimates are estimates (characters / 4, ±20 %).
Install
- Debian / Ubuntu:
sudo apt install ./mcproster_0.2.0-1_amd64.deb - Fedora:
sudo dnf install ./mcproster-0.2.0-1.x86_64.rpm(built, not yet tested on Fedora) - Any distribution:
chmod +x MCProster-0.2.0-x86_64.AppImage && ./MCProster-0.2.0-x86_64.AppImage
Checksums in SHA256SUMS. Full list in CHANGELOG.md.
MCProster 0.1.0
MCProster 0.1.0 — every MCP server declared on your Linux machine, in one list: where each is declared (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Continue, Zed, Goose, Kiro…), the duplicates and their versions, the dead entries, the secrets written in clear, the servers given access to the whole disk. It reads the hosts' configuration files and never writes to them. The inspector, not the manager.
Install
- Debian / Ubuntu:
sudo apt install ./mcproster_0.1.0-1_amd64.deb - Fedora:
sudo dnf install ./mcproster-0.1.0-1.x86_64.rpm(built, not yet tested on Fedora) - Any distribution:
chmod +x MCProster-0.1.0-x86_64.AppImage && ./MCProster-0.1.0-x86_64.AppImage
Each package ships the desktop app (mcproster-app) and the command line (mcproster). Checksums in SHA256SUMS.
What's inside
- 19 host rules, 39 locations, each established from the vendor's documentation or source code — URL, date, quote — or marked as observed:
hosts/,docs/hosts.md. - Servers grouped by identity (URL, package behind
npx/uvx, or binary); a file read by two hosts is one declaration for both, not a duplicate. - Findings: secret in clear, wide access, confirmations skipped, command missing, versions differ, declared twice or more, unreadable file — each with the action you could take, displayed and never executed.
- Secrets masked the moment they are read, everywhere;
${VAR}-style references are never masked and never flagged. - Probe on demand:
initialize+tools/list, 10 s, no tool called, remote servers never contacted. - Desktop app (Rust + iced): servers × hosts table, filters, detail with open/copy, findings, probe; English by default, French on demand; light and dark. CLI with
--json.
