VaultForge v1.0.0

The most capable MCP server for Obsidian — now with a new name.

Breaking Changes

  • Package renamed from @blacksmithers/obsidian-forge-mcp to @blacksmithers/vaultforge
  • CLI command changed from obsidian-forge to vaultforge
  • Cache directory changed from .obsidian-forge/ to .vaultforge/

Migration

# Install the new package
npm install -g @blacksmithers/vaultforge

# Update Claude Desktop config: change "obsidian-forge" → "vaultforge"
# Update Claude Code:
claude mcp remove obsidian-forge
claude mcp add vaultforge -- vaultforge /path/to/your/vault

Your .obsidian-forge/search-index.json cache will be rebuilt automatically at .vaultforge/search-index.json on first run.

Fixes

  • Suppressed fs.watch ENOENT errors on deleted directories (race condition in recursive watcher)

Why the rename?

"Obsidian" is a trademark of Dynalist Inc., who have enforced naming on other MCP servers. VaultForge removes the trademark concern while keeping full Obsidian vault compatibility.
