What's new in 0.3.0
- Settings (the ⚙ button, or ⌘,). It's the new home for updates, and updates now take one click. Install and restart checks the download, swaps the app, and puts the old version back if anything goes wrong. No Terminal.
- Your sector. Pick the sectors you work in, from 49, or take one suggested from your own network. Companies in them count for more in your scores. Everyone starts from the same neutral built-in scores.
- Take it to a new Mac. Save your network as one file and import it on another computer. Your LinkedIn sign-in never goes with it.
- Scanning needs nothing installed. The Mac app brings its own Python. With
npx six-degrees, a Set up the scanner button fetches one if your computer has none. - Security. Pages served on other local ports, and sites using DNS rebinding, can no longer reach the app.
Updating from 0.2.1 or older: download it again, or run the Terminal line below once. From 0.3.0 on, it's Settings → Updates → Install and restart.
Download for Mac: Six-Degrees-Mac-Apple-Silicon.dmg (any Mac with an Apple M chip) or Six-Degrees-Mac-Intel.dmg (older Intel Macs), below. Not sure which? Apple menu → About This Mac: "Chip: Apple M…" is Apple Silicon, "Processor: Intel" is Intel. Needs macOS 13.5 (Ventura) or later.
Open the .dmg and drag Six Degrees to Applications. It isn't signed with a paid Apple certificate yet, so the first time you open it macOS says it can't check it: close that message (not Move to Trash), then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Once per download.
Or install from Terminal (no Open Anyway step, and running it again updates):

Beta. Not offered to anyone automatically: the one-line install and the app's Updates panel skip pre-releases.
To try it without touching your normal copy, install it to a separate folder:
