In case of Darwin one should be looking for netcdf-cxx:

which makes g++ call as follows:
g++ main.cpp -L /usr/local/Cellular/netcdf-cxx/4.3.1_1/lib/ -lnetcdf-cxx4.1.1.0
Note that in case of Darwing g++ is allied to clang++ as g++ is deprecated on MacOSX
