AUFPV race build 2026-07-17 (HDZero goggle backpack: VTX channel-follow + DVR names + clock sync)
AUFPV race build of the ELRS Backpack for HDZero goggles — current ExpressLRS Backpack master with the race-day additions. Supersedes v2026.07.16-aufpv-race.
New in this release: goggle channel changes go over the air
The HDZero goggles have always transmitted their channel to the backpack ("Send VTX" button and dial long-press) — but the backpack's UART dispatch never handled the message, so it was silently dropped. This build forwards it: a goggle-initiated channel change is rebroadcast over ESP-NOW as MSP_SET_VTX_CONFIG, the same message the ELRS VTX Administrator uses. Every device in your bind group reacts with stock firmware:
- your TX backpack passes it to the radio, which updates its VTX Administrator setting and retunes your drone's VTX over the ELRS link (same prerequisites as VTX admin from the Lua script),
- a race timer listening on your bind group stays in sync.
Works with stock goggle firmware (Send VTX button / dial long-press on a new channel). Pair it with the AUFPV goggle firmware release for automatic sends on every channel change, long-press re-send and a green VTX SENT OSD confirmation: https://github.com/bob9/hdzero-goggle/releases/tag/v2026.07.17-aufpv-race
Also included (from the previous race build)
- Race-name pass-through — forwards
MSP_ELRS_BACKPACK_SET_DVR_NAMEto the goggles so DVR recordings are named after the heat (ExpressLRS#232). - Clock sync — sets the goggle clock from time received over ESP-NOW, so recordings carry correct dates (ExpressLRS#231).
The earlier changes are open pull requests against ExpressLRS Backpack; the channel-change forwarding is staged for upstream on the single-feature branch goggle-channel-broadcast.
Install
- Download
AUFPV_HDZero_Goggle_Backpack.zipand extract the four files (bootloader.bin,partitions.bin,boot_app0.bin,firmware.bin) into anELRSfolder on your goggle SD card (create it if it does not exist — the goggles look inSD:/ELRS/).
macOS: don't rely on Safari/Finder auto-extract — it can mangle the.binfiles. Extract from Terminal instead:unzip AUFPV_HDZero_Goggle_Backpack.zip. Windows extracts fine. - On the goggles: Menu → Firmware → Update ESP32, confirm, wait for the done message.
- Delete the four files from the card afterwards.
Binding
This is a generic build — no bind phrase is baked in, but your existing binding survives the update: a bind phrase flashed earlier with the ExpressLRS Configurator is stored on the backpack's file system, and a traditional binding is stored in its settings — neither is touched by the ESP32 update. If the timer or your radio can't reach your goggles afterwards, just re-bind: goggle backpack into bind mode, then Backpack → Bind in your radio's ELRS Lua script.
AUFPV race build 2026-07-16 (HDZero goggle backpack: DVR names + clock sync)
AUFPV race build of the ELRS Backpack for HDZero goggles — current ExpressLRS Backpack master with only the two race-day additions:
- Race-name pass-through — forwards
MSP_ELRS_BACKPACK_SET_DVR_NAMEto the goggles so DVR recordings are named after the heat (ExpressLRS#232). - Clock sync — sets the goggle clock from time received over ESP-NOW, so recordings carry correct dates (ExpressLRS#231).
Both changes are open pull requests against ExpressLRS Backpack.

HDZero Goggle 1 & 2 Backpack v1.0.2
ESP32 backpack firmware for the HDZero Goggle 1 and Goggle 2
(one firmware serves both goggles).
Adds over stock:
- Clock sync over the air (
MSP_ELRS_BACKPACK_SET_RTCvia ESP-NOW) —
the race timer keeps the goggle clock correct, so DVR recordings
carry real timestamps. - DVR recording names (
MSP_ELRS_BACKPACK_SET_DVR_NAME) — the race
timer names each heat's recording (needs matching hdzero-goggle
firmware with DVR race-name support).
To install: unzip …-sdcard.zip onto the goggle SD card (it puts
the files in an ELRS/ folder), then on the goggles go to
Firmware → Update ESP32. Afterwards you can delete the folder.
