9.5.38 — bolagnaise 9.5.19 merge
Merges bolagnaise 9.5.19 (race-day-lowband-5-fixes-23) into this line. The two trees had diverged all the way back to stock upstream — 290 commits there, 93 here — so this was a per-hunk merge across 31 conflicting files, not a fast-forward.
What came from bolagnaise 9.5.19
Scanning and channel selection (scan_core)
The single largest addition. Replaces the fixed band-toggle grid with a unified 5.8 GHz frequency table.
- Flat 20-channel dial — one continuous list across both bands (R1-R8, E1, F1, F2, F4, then L1-L8). The band is derived from the channel instead of being toggled separately.
- Auto / Dual protocol detect — probes HDZero and analog together and tags each result, so one scan covers both. (BoxPro and Goggle 2)
- Analog scan mode — sweeps all 48 analog channels with a calibrated RSSI threshold. (BoxPro and Goggle 2)
- Scan Now results list — scrollable, sorted strongest-first, showing only the channels actually found. In BW=Both mode each row is tagged
W/Nfor the bandwidth it was found at. - Choose from Last Scan — re-open the previous results without rescanning.
- BW=Auto re-acquire watchdog — when the signal drops, alternates bandwidths behind a "Detecting…" mask instead of the old per-click Wide+Narrow sweep that re-inited the DM6302 up to three times per confirm.
- After a Both scan the receiver parks on the focused result's bandwidth, so picking the default channel enters video without a reopen flash.
New Audio page
- Per-path volume and gain: DVR Playback, Live Volume, Mic Gain, Line/AV Gain.
- Four built-in 5-second capture-and-playback tests (DVR, Live, Mic, Line/AV) with progress fill in the buttons.
- Record Audio and Audio Source move here from the Record page.
Power
- Gradual battery warning — a new Warning Type alongside the existing modes, with slow / rapid / critical tiers, a configurable start voltage, escalating beeps, and a blinking OSD low-battery indicator.
- The critical stage shows and flashes the OSD voltage even when the OSD is toggled off.
Recording
- Auto DVR Stop Delay — a slider setting a grace period after signal loss before auto-record stops, so a brief dropout no longer splits a flight into two files.
- ELRS naming scheme — a third Naming Scheme option; race labels pushed over the backpack are only applied when this scheme is selected.
Head tracking
- Runtime gyro-bias tracking and BMI270 high-performance noise mode to cut pan drift.
- Gyro range tightened to ±1000 dps for lower drift in active use.
- Auto-centres once at startup after the fusion settles.
- Fixes pan drift induced by tilt motion.
Analog
- G1 NTSC/PAL auto-detect — the manual toggle is gone; the format is derived from the signal by detecting the 50 Hz field bit (not SLOCK), with adaptive fast-confirm.
- Analog RSSI calibration sampling fixed.
- Goggle 2: forces the Built-in module in Dual mode, and the Built-in RSSI bar shows correctly depending on which module is active.
- The analog RSSI bar is a positionable OSD element with a protocol selector.
Other
- SD card format writes a FAT32 partition type so cards read on macOS.
- OTA no longer reports a false FAILED on the app-partition flash read-back verify.
- SD free-space display refreshes after deleting a DVR clip.
- Menu sidebar scrolls to keep the selected entry visible.
What stayed on this branch
Bolagnaise's playback path is an earlier snapshot of the same work and does not carry the G1 fixes, so it was kept here rather than taken:
- G1 green raster — one receiver init per boot blackens the raster the FPGA chroma-keys through, so dark video areas no longer glow green.
- G1 90Hz control bar — the UI re-renders at 1280x720 to match the mode's scanout; without this the bar renders comb-torn and doubled.
- True 90Hz/60Hz DVR playback via the live video path, background baseband prewarm, direct mode switch, the playback FPS counter,
hwlog, and the TS fps probe's ×1000 precision. - Control bar auto-hides after 4s and wakes on dial input.
- WiFi client network selection, the Shutdown option, and the H.264 full-range VUI fix.
- Bolagnaise's Goggle 2 FPGA payload choice (VA184, not VA191) is carried across — VA191 had field reports of white lines and incorrect colour.
New in this release
- Record Bitrate now has five steps: Normal, 1/4, 1/2, 1.5x, 2x. The two reducing scales are new; stored values for Normal/1.5x/2x are unchanged, so an existing
settings.inikeeps its meaning. - Auto Send VTX — new toggle on the ELRS page, default off. With it on, a dial click sends the channel to the VTX; with it off only a deliberate long press does. VTX Control remains the master switch.
- Fixed: a long press on the already-tuned channel now re-sends. Previously the send sat inside the "channel changed" branch, so you had to dial away and back to trigger one. The green VTX SENT confirmation is retained.
Behaviour changes worth knowing
- Dial Lowband is gone. The flat 20-channel dial supersedes it, so L-band is always in the scroll wheel rather than opt-in. The old setting key is ignored.
- Scan Now lists only the channels it found. The all-channels signal-bar grid is removed.
- G1 no longer has a manual NTSC/PAL toggle — the format is auto-detected.
- Bitrate settings do not transfer from bolagnaise 9.5.19. That build reused the same
bitrate_scalekey with inverted meaning (1 = 1/2, 2 = 1/4). Re-check Record Bitrate after flashing from it.

Not yet flown. Builds are verified for all three targets, but this release has had no hardware testing.
