Open the installer. Neural Chess installs for your account, adds shortcuts, and opens automatically. No development tools or terminal required. Choose your AI provider inside the app; cloud providers require your own API credentials, while local models use Ollama.

What's new

• A smoother start. Guided connection setup and a direct download make it easier to get to your first game.
• A board that fits. The board and controls adapt to smaller windows and increased display zoom.
• Clear recovery when AI pauses. Fix your connection and retry the same turn. Failed requests no longer trigger random moves, and Stop cancels cleanly.
• More reliable AI moves. The app reads final answers separately from provider reasoning and validates each move before playing it.
• Safer saved credentials. API keys stay associated with the provider and server they were saved for.
• Correct repetition draws. The complete position history survives moves and takebacks.
• All providers in the Windows app. Ollama, OpenAI, Anthropic, and compatible custom endpoints remain available after installation.
• Updated Electron and dependencies. Security updates cover the desktop runtime, update-feed parser, and build tools.

Your AI service and any model usage charges are separate from Neural Chess. Models are not bundled, and AI models can still make weak moves or fail to return a legal one.

Existing users

Use App details → Check updates, or run the new installer. Settings are retained. If you are upgrading from an older credential-storage format, you may need to enter your API key again.

Windows download note

This release is unsigned, so Windows may display a SmartScreen or unknown-publisher warning. Download from this repository's releases. The .blockmap and latest.yml files support in-app updates; most users only need NeuralChess-Setup.exe. SHA256SUMS.txt contains checksums for those who want to verify their download.
