• improvements

  • The espeak data directory can now be chosen with
    EspeakWrapper.set_data_path() or the environment variable

  • phonemize() now reuses backend instances across calls instead of
    building a new one every time. See PR #212 <https://github.com/bootphon/phonemizer/pull/212>__.

• bug fixes

  • Behaviour change: a comma or period between two digits is no longer
    treated as punctuation, so numbers such as 19,99 and 3.14 are kept
    whole instead of being split into two numbers. Splitting them changed the
    spoken output. The previous behaviour can still be obtained by passing an
    explicit regex as punctuation_marks. See PR #216 <https://github.com/bootphon/phonemizer/pull/216>__.
  • Selecting a language by its code no longer resolves to an mbrola variant
    that shadows the plain espeak voice, which made such languages unusable
    when the mbrola binary is absent. See PR #215 <https://github.com/bootphon/phonemizer/pull/215>__.
  • The espeak library is now also looked up under its lib-prefixed names,
    so a stock espeak-ng installation on Windows is found. See PR #214 <https://github.com/bootphon/phonemizer/pull/214>__.
  • Tests related to festival backend are now skipped when festival is not installed on the system.
  • Improved espeak library lookup on macos.
  • Unusable mbrola voices are filtered out on Windows.
