Release list
Àwárí v0.1.0
Àwárí is a Wayland launcher built on GPUI and fff search. A small GPU-free daemon keeps a frecency-ranked index of your windows, apps and files, and a separate overlay draws that list when you ask for it. Search runs in-process, so there is no helper subprocess per keystroke.
Install
Debian / Ubuntu
sudo apt install ./awari_0.1.0_amd64.debFedora
sudo dnf install ./awari-0.1.0-1.fc44.x86_64.rpmArch
sudo pacman -U awari-0.1.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zstRaw tarballs for all three distros are attached too if you use something else. This is a Git-only project, it builds against a vendored patched GPUI, so it will not come to crates.io. cargo install --git still works for anything you cannot use these on.
After install
Run the daemon under your Wayland session and bind a key. Config lives at ~/.config/awari/config.kdl and is read once at daemon start, awari restart applies edits.
systemctl --user enable --now awari.serviceBind a key to awari toggle-launcher. niri and Hyprland examples are in the README. Best on compositors with wlr-layer-shell (niri, Hyprland, sway, river, labwc), on GNOME and Mutter it falls back to a normal window for apps, files and commands.
What you get
- Windows, apps and files in one fuzzy list, ranked by frecency, no subprocess per character
- Query modes like path browsing (with
*.pdf,!node_modules/,../),o:list,r:regex,>shell commands and arithmetic - Ten color presets (nord, tokyonight, catppuccin, gruvbox and more), hex tokens only, no CSS, per-token overrides
- Per-row action menu (Open, Show in Folder, Copy Path, Run in Terminal, Run)
- The overlay stays alive hidden by default for instant re-open, or
keep-alive = falsedrops it for the leanest idle footprint, daemon sits at single-digit MB in both cases
