resesh v0.17.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Sep 10:09

Small windows

  • The sessions pane floats over the tabs when the window is narrow, so terminals keep their full width and don't resize when you open it. Open it from the rail or with Ctrl+Shift+B. Click outside it, press Esc, or open a session to close it. It docks again when the window is wide, with its size and open state unchanged.
  • Choose how the sessions pane behaves in Settings > General > Sessions pane: Automatic (float on narrow windows), Float over tabs, or Dock beside tabs.
  • On narrow windows the New SSH session button shows only its icon, and quick connect becomes a search button that expands over the menus. Ctrl+Shift+K still opens it.
  • A docked sessions pane gets narrower on small windows so the tabs stay usable. Its saved width comes back when the window is wider.
  • The window has a minimum size, so the title bar and tabs no longer overlap or get cut off.

Settings and Welcome tabs

  • Drag the Settings and Welcome tabs like any other tab: reorder them, split them into their own pane, or move them to another window.
  • On narrow windows or in a split, the Settings sections become an icon rail, then a row across the top.

Fixes and polish

  • The command history result is now shown as a status badge.
  • Clicking the selected rail icon now opens the sessions pane when it is closed.

Command history

  • Keep every finished command with its output, folder, session, time and exit result, and search it across all sessions with Ctrl+Shift+H. History is off until you turn it on in Settings or on the Welcome screen.
  • Filter by host, folder, exit result, session, time or day (the calendar marks days with history), jump between matches in the output, insert a command at the prompt, or open its session.
  • When a command has run more than once on the same host, Compare with Previous shows what changed between runs, unified or side by side, with changed words marked and F7 to step between changes. Timestamps are ignored by default, and numbers can be too.
  • History stays on this PC in history.db. Set how many days to keep, clear it from Settings, or opt individual sessions out. Deleted history is removed from the disk.

Settings

  • Settings now opens as a tab instead of a dialog, with General, Recording, Highlighting, Agents and Keyboard Shortcuts sections. Changes save as you make them and apply to every open window, including theme and font changes.
  • "Confirm before closing active sessions" and "Write crash reports" are now in Settings > General.
  • Add "Start resesh when I sign in to Windows" to Settings > General. It respects the Startup apps switch in Task Manager.

Taskbar

  • Right-click resesh on the taskbar for a jump list of pinned and recent sessions and a New Window task.
  • Opening a session while resesh is running now opens it in the window you used last and brings that window forward.

Telnet

  • Choose a text encoding per telnet session: Automatic (UTF-8, switching to CP437 for BBS and ANSI art), UTF-8 or CP437.
  • Optionally report 80 x 25 to BBS servers while the tab keeps its real size.

Fixes and polish

  • Adding, deleting, moving or renaming sessions no longer scrolls the session tree back to the top.
  • Remaining tabs no longer flash at a narrower width when you close a tab.
  • Menu items are disabled when they don't apply, and a shortcut that can't run passes its key to the terminal.

Telnet

  • Add telnet sessions for console servers and lab or management networks. Choose Telnet in the session editor's new Protocol picker, use New Telnet Session… from the New Session menu, or type telnet host, telnet host:2003 or telnet host 2003 in quick connect.
  • The server's window size follows the tab as it resizes, and the session's terminal type is sent to the server, so full-screen programs such as htop, btop and vim fit the window.
  • Telnet sessions live in the same folder tree as SSH sessions and are included in backups. The editor warns that telnet is unencrypted.
  • Send Break (Session menu, tab menu, command palette, or Ctrl+Break) sends a telnet BREAK. Console servers pass it to the device as a serial break, for boot interrupts and password recovery.

Import

  • PuTTY and SecureCRT telnet sessions are now imported. They need no saved password: the server's login prompt appears in the terminal.
  • Fix SecureCRT imports that used the wrong port for sessions that had been switched between protocols, for example an SSH session that was once an RDP session.

Fixes

  • Fix a crash at startup when resesh is installed in, or started with a data folder in, a very deep folder path.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Add a Keyboard Shortcuts screen (View menu, the command palette, or Ctrl+Shift+/) that lists every shortcut by category and can be searched by name or key.
  • Tabs: Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab to cycle, Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+8 and Ctrl+9 to jump, Ctrl+Shift+W to close, Ctrl+Shift+D to clone, Ctrl+Shift+R to reconnect or restart, and Ctrl+Shift+PgUp/PgDn to move a tab.
  • Split view: Ctrl+Shift+- to split down, and Alt+Arrow to move between groups while the window is split.
  • Window: Ctrl+Shift+N for a new window, Ctrl+, for Settings, Ctrl+Shift+B to show or hide the sessions pane, and F11 for full screen.
  • Terminal: per-tab zoom (Ctrl+=, Ctrl+-, Ctrl+0 or Ctrl+mouse wheel), Select All, Clear Scrollback, page and top/bottom scrolling, and Ctrl+Insert / Shift+Insert to copy and paste.
  • Session tree: F2 renames a folder or edits a session, and Delete deletes the selection after asking.
  • Plain Ctrl+letter and Alt+letter keys always reach the shell, so Ctrl+W, Ctrl+R and the tmux prefix keep working.

Remote programs and Claude Code

  • Remote programs such as Claude Code, tmux and Neovim can copy to the Windows clipboard with OSC 52. A remote host can never read the clipboard.
  • Shift+Enter inserts a newline in Claude Code and similar prompts instead of submitting.
  • Emoji and wide symbols take the same width as on the remote host, so full-screen programs stay aligned with the cursor.
  • OSC 8 hyperlinks open in the browser, and hovering one shows its real target.
  • Resesh answers terminal version queries and asks SSH servers for truecolor, so Claude Code and other tools use synchronized output and full colour.

Progress

  • Show progress reported by programs (OSC 9;4) and by file-pane transfers as a bar on the tab and on the taskbar button.

Fixes and polish

  • Fix GPU-rendered terminal text that was sometimes blurry at fractional display scaling until the window was resized.

Persistent sessions

  • Add a per-connection "When earlier shells are running" setting: resume or ask (default), always start new, or end detached shells and start new.
  • The connect picker lists earlier shells by folder and program, detached first, and can end the detached ones and start fresh.
  • The session manager gains End All Detached and marks shells that are open in a tab. Close Others and Close All can end the closing tabs' sessions.
  • Shells owned by a tab or attached from another client are never ended automatically, and an attached shell is never resumed without asking.

Session tree

  • Show a session's host after its name when the row is selected or hovered, on the same line so rows no longer shift under a double-click.
  • Replace the Nokia, Juniper and Cisco wordmark icons, which blurred at tree size, with each vendor's compact favicon mark. Arista and VyOS get their own icons instead of the generic network and router glyphs.
  • Use clearer stacked-box icons for Expand All and Collapse All.

Tabs and terminals

  • Tab switches and closes no longer flash WebView2's gray fill, and switching between terminals that have already rendered is instant.
  • Improve tab selection, drag scrolling and command palette search, keep tab drag previews within the tab bar, and restore targeted tab animations.
  • Clicking a tab header hands focus straight back to the terminal.

Fixes and polish

  • Fix a crash when moving the window between monitors with different DPI.
  • Polish the Welcome page layout and themes, settings, and terminal navigation.
  • Bring the README and roadmap in line with the shipped features.

@github-actions github-actions released this 17 Sep 05:41

Terminal performance

  • Enable GPU-accelerated terminal rendering, with DOM fallback when acceleration is unavailable or the GPU context cannot recover.
  • Fix blank GPU-rendered sessions caused by canvas pixel-size changes leaving the WebGL viewport and glyph state out of sync.
  • Reduce CPU use and highlighting delay during sustained output such as journalctl -f. Highlights now follow rows through scrollback trimming instead of repeatedly recreating unchanged decorations.
  • Reduce overview-ruler drawing work for dense logs and prevent highlight indexing from starving during continuous output.

Session improvements

  • Add command-completion tracking and opt-in notifications for a running command.
  • Add optional shell integration and improve terminal context detection.
  • Add remote tmux session management and a detailed connection picker.
  • Fix multiline bracketed paste handling.
  • Throttle transfer-progress updates and show the active session in the window title.
  • Improve connection lifecycle handling and storage recovery.

Validation

  • All 225 JavaScript checks pass.
  • A real GPU-pixel regression fails with the original renderer and passes with the canvas-resize repair.
  • Verified visible startup, typed command output, resizing, and 1,000 highlighted output lines inside the application's actual WebView2 host with GPU rendering active.
  • The application builds without warnings or errors.

@github-actions github-actions released this 06 Sep 11:24

Fixed

  • Fix blank terminal views after opening SSH or local connections. The terminal page now includes the serializer script required for startup.
  • Add a regression check that verifies every terminal script and stylesheet is included in the page, in the correct order.

Validation

  • Verified that the local PowerShell banner, prompt, typed command, and command output are visible.
  • All 201 terminal tests passed locally.

Changes

  • Import SSH keys as shared items from SecureCRT, PuTTY, and OpenSSH, and link imported sessions to them. SecureCRT global and personal key settings are included.
  • Show key paths and missing files in the import preview. Handle encrypted PKCS#8 keys without requesting a passphrase during import.
  • Add persistent terminal highlight rules.
  • Improve responsive tabs and SSH agent activity indicators.
  • Update website screenshots and add a theme demonstration.

The WebView terminal and playback remain the default. Native terminal work remains behind a development build option.

Import limits

Key files stay in their current location. Passwords and key passphrases are not imported. OpenSSH imports use the first configured IdentityFile. Existing sessions are unchanged, and duplicate sessions are skipped.

Downloads

Signed setup EXE and MSI packages, plus portable ZIP files, are available for x64 and ARM64. SHA256SUMS.txt contains the download checksums.
