### Changes
**Migrate from HTTPX to HTTPXYZ** (#39,
ddbc8825f6786d18eb122df688819c770029f2dd)
Concerns have been raised about the governance and future of the HTTPX
project. HTTPX has not released Python 3.13 support and has not done a
release of any kind since 2024. The reasons for this, and the path
forward, are confusing and controversial
([encode/httpx#3344](https://github.com/encode/httpx/discussions/3344)).
Issues and discussions were disabled
([encode/httpx#3784](https://github.com/encode/httpx/discussions/3784)),
citing "skewed gender representation," making further discussion
difficult.
Community members volunteered to
[fork HTTPX](https://httpxyz.org/why-fork/) to help alleviate some of
these difficulties and move forward.
This release will migrate from HTTPX to the
[HTTPXYZ](https://httpxyz.org/) fork. As part of this, the
`fastenv[httpx]` extra will be removed. The `fastenv[cloud]` extra will
now install HTTPXYZ instead of HTTPX.
In most cases, the migration was accomplished with simply
`import httpxyz` and updating references in those modules to point to
the `httpxyz` namespace.
In some specific cases, third-party dependencies rely on HTTPX
specifically for their internal functionality, such as the
[FastAPI/Starlette `TestClient`](https://fastapi.tiangolo.com/tutorial/testing/).
Installing HTTPXYZ 0.28.2 raises an error:

In these cases, HTTPXYZ needs to have more precise drop-in compatibility
with HTTPX. A strategy for achieving this drop-in compatibility is
`sys.modules.setdefault`, which can replace a module's namespace with
that of another module. HTTPXYZ uses this strategy
(`sys.modules.setdefault("httpx", _sys.modules[__name__])`). As long as
HTTPXYZ is imported before other dependencies that require HTTPX, it
will just work.
**Migrate from Material for MkDocs to Zensical** (#40,
4a0d10cf560e251421211064569fdf2f2fd59855)
The documentation for this project was previously built with Material
for MkDocs, which depends on MkDocs.
[MkDocs has suffered from problematic project governance for years](https://fpgmaas.com/blog/collapse-of-mkdocs/).
The original author of MkDocs, also the original author of the similarly
problematic HTTPX (https://github.com/br3ndonland/fastenv/pull/39), is
taking the project in a controversial new direction.
[Material for MkDocs has been placed in maintenance mode](https://squidfunk.github.io/mkdocs-material/blog/2025/11/05/zensical/)
and there is a newer alternative called
[Zensical](https://zensical.org/docs/get-started/).
This release will migrate from Material for MkDocs to Zensical. Zensical
offers [compatibility](https://zensical.org/compatibility/) with MkDocs.
The same `mkdocs.yml` configuration file will be used.
Zensical does not have the `--site-dir` option, so it will be set with
`site_dir` in `mkdocs.yml` or `zensical.toml`.
