Progression
Levels are automatically gained at particular experience thresholds.
Dying decreases your experience, but does not decrease your level. They are "permanent" gains.
You gain experience by slaying enemies and by completing quests.
You start at level 3 in Fort Victory, the newbie zone.
It is suggested to move on to the "lowbie" zone from level 6 onwards.
At level 10, you can go to various "midbie" zones. I will put up guides at some point, once we build more areas.
Abilities are the other permanent thing you never lose upon death. You gain "practice points" at every level which can be used for learning abilities. See the Abilities page for more information.
Quests are acquired at cities and forts. You must choose only one quest, and then go to complete it. Quests are completed usually in enemy strongholds. There are two types of quests: conquests and checkpoints. Checkpoint quests can be claimed once you reach a particular location, conquests must be claimed only when you've conquered a zone, are in said zone, and all monsters in said zone are dead.
Money can make your life much easier, by keeping you equipped with the best equipment, and well-stocked with supplies and ammo.
To help players to "bounce back" from loss, players can log out in a city, and when they log in again, they will gain some money. It is assumed that their characters have less-dangerous professions they can use to earn money. How much they earn depends on their abilities: e.g. being good at Influence, Medicine, or System tends to pay well.
The longer the logged out period, the greater this boost. However, there is a cap (I am thinking of 48 hours being the maximum). It is my sneaky mechanism for encouraging regular play.
You'll probably notice you can just log in every 48 hours and log out immediately to game the system. I don't think this is a problem: enjoy the boost, if you need it.
You use money to buy better equipment than the base quality stuff. It's not permanent, since it degrades over time when you fight, but you can repair it for a fee. A skilled player can keep himself in top equipment indefinitely.
You lose everything when you die, except levels and abilities. Experience will be lost, so it will take longer to get to the next level.
Equipment, money, loot, ammo: all lost. Make sure you keep money in the bank, this is very important! As an act of generosity to the heroes who fight the predators, the realm will restore your supplies to full after death.
After death, you will reappear in Fort Victory (if a newbie), the lowbie city (for lowbies), or the capital city (all others).
